REVIEW: Tostitos – Thins – Tex Mex Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©-1/4 chips  (notable)

These new Tostitos “limited time only” Thins Tex Mex chips are just that….an extremely thin chip that sports a nice crunch and texture, but wouldn’t hold up under the weight of any type of salsa or dip.  You would like to think that these Tex Mex chips would feel the need to bring their own level of seasoning to the game then, but again, like the bag says they are very thin there as well.  The seasoning is there, but it is almost invisible to the eyes and tongue, and totally indistinguishable as to what the flavor is supposed to be.

Which brings Chip Review to our next dilemma – what the heck is Tex Mex flavor?  Before you all start sending us angry messages explaining to us what Tex Mex is, we want to let you know that we understand what Tex Mex cuisine is.  Tex Mex: a hybrid fusion cuisine of southwest US / Texan food and traditional Mexican food, due largely in part to the huge population of Mexicans immigrating into those regions.  But again, we ask, “What the heck is Tex Mex flavor?  Is it a flavor that somehow encompasses an entire regional cuisine?  Can anyone out there think of a vaguer flavor description?  Why don’t we just make some new chips and call them Italian?  Or, American?  We rest our case.

  1. Found these in my Target & Love them. Plain original Dorito chips were thin like this several years ago anyway. Then the ‘corn’ fuel thing started and the chips got thicker – ( I never liked thick Frito chips ) Too bad they are only temporary, why bother to make & sell them?

    • We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – one of the things we love so much about chips is that everyone has their own opinions and tastes.

That being said, we are sorry but we disagree with you on these ones. And in regards to your statement about the thickness of Doritos; we’ve been enjoying Doritos a very long time and we can’t ever recall them being any thinner….
Might you be referring to Tostitos?
