It seems like every brand these days has a line of kettle cooked chips. You’ve got those brands that work solely with the kettle cooked products, like Kettle Brand, Tim’s, Dirty and Zapp’s. Then you have those larger name brands that have decided to give the kettle cooked game a shot, like Lay’s, Herr’s, and Jay’s, producing kettle cooked lines under their brand already established names. Finally, you have chips like these – Krunchers! Which we can’t exactly identify whether or not they were originally something else, or what. The chips without a history. Brands like these are owned and operated by large umbrella companies, in this case Snyder’s-Lance Inc. (who also has Cape Cod, Snyder’s of Hanover, Tom’s, O-Ke-Doke).
All that aside….is the product good? In this case, it is. Unlike the last sour cream & onion chips we reviewed, these ones did not leave us feeling cheated and sad. Krunchers! definitely delivers on its name too. Thick cut, crunchy kettle cooked, not too oily, but could be more potato-y, chips are decent. And the sour cream and onion seasoning passes the flavor test, and coats these chips nicely. Judging solely on flavor, Chip Review thinks we would be hard pressed to tell these chips apart from Lay’s Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips.
