Recently we reviewed Billy Goat Chip Company’s Original Potato Chips here at Chip Review and we were rather happy with what we tasted. According to The Billy Goat Chip Company they began as a gastro pub of the same name a decade ago in St. Louis, Missouri. The potato chips were served from day one and quickly became a signature item. The popularity and demand for the tasty treats helped direct their path towards forming the chip company in 2009, and they have been in production ever since.
We had high hopes for the original chips, and for the most part they did not disappoint, but here at Chip Review if you haven’t figured it out yet, we have a soft spot for spicy chips, so we had even higher hopes for these particular chips. Well, where as the original chips radiated a fresh fried potato scent, and sported a nice combination of sweet, savory and salty seasonings, these Spicy Kicker chips did no such thing!
These ones, sorry to say, were basically a giant greasy mess. The chips were actually somehow still crunchy, but each one we pulled from the bag was almost dripping with oil. The wonderful potato smell we experienced with the original potato chips was basically nonexistent with these. Even the seasoning itself seemed lackluster and generic. A little bit of garlic, a little bit of onion, mixed with some mildly hot one dimensional combination of spices = nothing to write home about.
Stick with the originals. In fact, if you ever find yourself in the St. Louis area make sure to grab yourself a bag of the original potato chips because they’re definitely a better choice than most of what we find out there.
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
