Is it just us, or does it seem like just about every other chip review we do these days is spicy in one way or another…..? Jalapeno-Habanero this, and Sweet-Chile-Heat that, and Spicy-Flamin’-Caliente….. There is definitely a trend going on right now in the chip market, and it’s making us sweaty, thirsty and hungry!!
These jalapeno chips are from a company called Door County, named after, and located on, a peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan on the Eastern most side of Wisconsin. These chips did not have a very strong jalapeno scent or flavor, and we felt only the slightest bit of spicy heat present after eating the entire bag. The seasoning reminded us more of a creamy buttermilk and onion flavor (actually quite tasty), but definitely not very jalapeno-y or spicy. There were some green specs sporadically covering the chips, but that definitely could be from the inclusion of parsley in the ingredient, and not necessarily the jalapeno – since we don’t taste much of the chili pepper. We’re fairly certain that anyone who bit into these chips without knowing what flavor they were supposedly eating, would think they were eating some type of sour cream or onion chips, not jalapeno flavored chips.
The potato chips themselves were pretty tasty, with slightly brown edges and a certain depth to their crunch and flavor. These chips are on the thicker side and very crunchy – textbook kettle cooked chips.
These are pretty good flavored potato chips, but only OK jalapeno chips….
As always we would love to hear what you think. Let us know.
