Chip Review found these chips while visiting, believe it or not, St. Louis!!! Funny thing is, these chips are not made in St. Louis…
Well, these chips are obscenely over-seasoned. Salt, salt, salt. We want a glass of water just thinking about these chips.
At first taste, these chips seem like BBQ chips to us – sweet, tomato powder, little smokey – all the usual suspects. Next, there is a slight hint of cheese, but it is extremely subtle. Finally, these chips bring the spicy HEAT! Lots of it!! It was not a prolonged heat that stuck with us for very long, but it was abrupt.
Where exactly the heat is coming from on these chips, we aren’t quite sure. The only thing listed among the ingredients that we could assume may be the culprit was “spice extractives…..”. So, as far as the St. Louis Hot Sauce included on these chips….we didn’t get any of that at all. No vinegar, no chili peppery notes, and none of the zip. Just a salty monosodium glutamate heavy burn.
The potato chips themselves are medium, narrow ripples, and fairly small in chip size. Plus, we couldn’t taste any potato flavor through the overly-abundant seasoning.
