A couple of weeks ago we reviewed Flamous Original Falafel Chips. You can read our review of those here. In short, we were rather impressed with just how much the chips tasted exactly like falafels.
For those of you who did not read our other review, or for those of you unfamiliar with falafels, according to the chip bag: “falafel are an east Mediterranean seasoned vegetarian patty rich in protein and fiber”. And, according to Wikipedia: “Falafel is made from fava beans or chickpeas, or a combination of the two. The use of chickpeas is predominant in most Middle Eastern countries….” These chips appear to use a combination of fava and black beans, as well as, chickpeas.
Again, just like with the Original Falafel Chips, right off the bat these chips evoked that unique combination of Middle Eastern flavors. Enveloping us with powerful notes of cumin, and coriander, mixed with plenty of garlic. However, this time around, it was as though we were eating some sort of spicy hybrid falafels. And by spicy, we don’t mean dusted with a tiny bit of deceivingly hot red powder. No, these Falafel Chips were loaded with some powerful cayenne chili heat that hit the backs of our throats and provided us with a really nice, prolonged, dull burn. The addition of the cayenne chili powder added yet another dimension to these already multi-flav-yered (that’s flavor + layered…..ingenious we know) Falafel Chips. To round everything out, the salt level on these chips was spot on.
Plain and simple………
These are really, really great chips!! These are even better than the originals!! 1/2 a chip rating higher (than the Original Falafel Chips), may not seem like much, but these chips have reached that level of “rare chips” that not many chips ever aspire to, let alone, ever do achieve. In fact, we’re fairly confident that you may be hearing about these chips again on our best of the year list at the end of this year.
To top it all off, we are simply amazed by the nutritional value of these chips. In fact, we’ve never seen a single bag lay claim to such healthy standards. If there’s a healthy label or category, these chips have them.
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
