Miss Vickie’s Sweet Chili & Sour Cream Kettle Cooked Potato Chips found their way to our shelves here at Chip Review this past Summer all the way from Canada, via our good friend LRH. We were immediately intrigued by this unique combination of flavors – Sweet Chili & Sour Cream – definitely not a well known classic combination in our books. In fact, according to our records we have only tasted two other chips with this same flavor combination, and it has not been for quite some time.
As excited as we were for these sweet chili & sour cream chips, we have to say that in the end we were a little bit disappointed with their overall flavor execution. The chips definitely had a great chili taste. The heat grew and grew with the more chips we tasted, but none of the sweet half of the equation ever transpired. To add to these chips’ issues, only the most minimal amount of sour cream seasoning was present. Let’s just say that we’re pretty certain that the addition of sweetness really would have added another dimension that these chips could have really used. And, a more generous dusting of sour cream would have provided that extra layer of flavor we were hoping for.
The kettle cooked potato chips were good in their own right. We would call them a medium-thin thickness, with a respectable crunch. Sizes varied a bit, and for the most part the chips were flat and not all twisted up like some kettle chips. But, the chips alone were not enough to make us love these chips. Our high hopes for this flavor combo was just too much to overcome when Miss Vickie didn’t deliver on the sweet chili & sour cream promise.
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
