Yet another Limited Edition! throwback flavor from Doritos. So far, if our records our correct, this would make the fourth flavor that Doritos has re-released in their retro throwback bags. First, it was Taco Flavor, then Salsa Rio (loved’em) and Sour Cream & Onion (not our favorites….by a long shot), and now Jumpin’ Jack.
Doritos latest remind us of another long lost flavor, that we were huge fans of back in the day – Black Pepper Jack. In fact, when we first saw these Jumpin’ Jack chips, we thought that they may actually be a reincarnation of the Black Pepper Jack, but as it turns out, Jumpin’ Jack was a flavor of its own from the early 90’s; good thing too, because our memory of the Black Pepper Jack chips had us loving them a bit more than we did these Jumpin’ Jack chips.
Not that these chips are bad by any means, many of our tasters thought they were delicious, and everyone agreed that they were definitely tasty and eatable. The flavor is pepper forward, first and foremost, and does not lack on the seasoning level. The chips pack plenty of zippy, “spicy” punch!! When combined with the light cheese coating, the flavor is softened and smoothed out a bit, and even kind of reminds us of Spicier Nacho Doritos, just with a lot more black pepper.
If the Jumpin’ Jack’s flavor reminds us of Spicier Nacho, then their appearance evokes thoughts of Cooler Ranch. Both chips are heavily coated with a colorful array of larger seasoning specs. The difference being that rather than blue dots, Jumpin’ Jack’s chips have black dots, but both chips have the bright red dots.
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
