PopChips - Chili Limon Tortilla Chips

We’ve said it before (quite a few times now in fact), but as a whole, we have not yet fully embraced and fallen chips-over-lips for the super popular popped chip market industry-trend.  However, we totally get it, popped chips are the healthier, crunchy snack option for people who are looking for that sort of thing, or more likely, need that sort of thing, but often times these healthier options come at the cost of what we at Chip Review are looking for: FLAVOR.

Luckily for us, that is not the case with these latest Popchips.  We like the Chili Limon Tortilla Chips much, much better than the Ranch flavored Tortilla Chips we reviewed months back from Popchips.  In fact, we like them more than nearly all of the other Popchips we have reviewed up to this point.

These chips just seemed to be in perfect harmony with themselves.  Coated with a very light scattering of simple and tasty ingredients, the masa flavor shines through first and foremost.  Unlike so many other chili and lime flavored chips that bombard us with, dare we say, too much (abrasive) flavor, this combination from Popchips remains subtle and smooth.  Never swaying too far in one direction, and yet adding wonderful little nuances – such as a touch of sweetness, and even a bit of lemon to compliment and mellow the lime flavor – that enhance the complexity and quality of these chips.

For another (relatively similar) opinion, check out Junk Food Guy’s take on all four of Popchips new tortilla chip line.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
