Yippee, another rolled (taquito riff) tortilla chip on the market! We are so pleased…If you sensed a certain level of sarcasm in the air (or, on the screen), you would not be mistaken. At the risk of sounding like a broken record – we here at Chip Review retain our stance towards this style of chips, and we are not huge fans.
What more can we say regarding the texture of the rolled tortilla chips (El Sabroso’s version turns out to be no different)? Always too dense, and the crunch is simply too hard, or rigid. We would love a much lighter and crispier chip – something not so volatile on our mouths. And their shape really makes them hard to lick (that’s right, we often like to lick the seasoning). We like to eat one chip at a time, and these are really built for mass consumption.
The Salsa Picante flavor isn’t horrible, and luckily the seasoning level, despite being on the heavier side, isn’t overkill, and we were still able to taste the rustic corn masa flavor. The salsa seasoning contains all of the normal suspects, there’s onion, garlic, tomato, paprika, even a little avocado flavor (nice addition), but there’s no real heat to speak of… Definitely not the best salsa flavor that we have tasted, but at the same time not the worst.
Lastly, can we just ask…What is a Taco-Lito?? Taquito, we’re pretty sure translates to: little taco. Is Taco-Lito some type of riff on taco + rolled + little? Is it just supposed to sound like taquito, but we are not supposed to pay any attention to what it actually means? Or, maybe these are Lito’s tacos? Regardless of what it is supposed to be, we do not appreciate having to think so hard while trying to enjoy a chip!!
