A little while ago we reviewed Gibble’s Original Home Style Potato Chips, and we liked them quite a bit. Just in case you happen to miss that review we think it’s important to get something out of the way early on this review. Gibble’s Potato Chips have a very, very, very unique flavor, and that unique flavor comes from the decision to fry their chips in LARD, rather than the more popular vegetable oil.
Just in case, for those of you who don’t know: Lard = (plain and simple) = PIG FAT!
Gibble’s Krinkle Kut Potato Chips are definitely not lacking in the salt department, and we like it. They have an oily, crispy, crumbly-crunchy texture, with a nice mouthfeel. We would describe the chips as medium-small, with wider cut crinkles.
We’re fairly confident in saying that Gibble’s potato chips are the first, and only, chips we’ve tasted that have been cooked using strictly lard; and we must say again, that the lard flavor is a tiny bit off-putting at first to our lard immaturity, but after a handful, or two, they started to really tasted good and salty.
Lard for frying!!……that alone should be cause enough to go out and buy yourself a bag of these chips…..and then report back to us with your thoughts!
