Alright, first and foremost, you know that we here at Chip Review are not averse to meat flavored chips. In fact, we’ve found a handful that we have really, really loved. Which is why it is with utmost despair, that we must inform you that we are not fans of McCoy’s Thai Sweet Chicken Crisps.
Truth be told, these crisps were a little too chicken-y for us (which, we find a bit weird since there was no single ingredient among the list that closely resembled anything with wings…). So, what is it that gives them that undeniable chicken flavor. Wheat? Barley? Or, the likely culprit, MSG? The chicken flavor was so forward that we were surprised not to see instructions on the bag indicating ‘refrigeration required after opening’.
Despite the too much chicken-ness exuding from these crisps, that really wasn’t what we didn’t like about them. We have loved plenty of chicken flavored chips. What we really didn’t like about these crisps were their lack of depth, and complexity. We would sum up these crisps as sweet, with a bit of soy, garlic, onion and just the faintest brush of chili heat on the tail end. They reminded us nothing of the amazing Thai chicken dishes that we’ve tasted over the years (we’re talking about you Pok Pok!). And, they most certainly come no where near the best Thai flavored chips that we’ve ever tasted, and as long as Kettle Brand continues to keep those chips on our grocery shelves, we won’t be needing any other Thai chips!
As always we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree. Let us know.
