A little while back we did a chip swap with our friend Dani over at The Daily Yum. We sent her a bag of each of the three ‘Flavor Finalists’ for Lay’s ‘Do Us a Flavor’ contest (we are still Team Chicken & Waffles!!) – you can find her opinion of those right here. In return, we were sent a lovely trio of uniquely flavored potato chips from a local grocery store called President’s Choice (PC). Apparently, these chips are the President’s Choice, so who are we judge? Well, we are Chip Review, and that is what we do.
The third, and final, flavor from our President’s Choice trio, falls somewhere between the first two flavors we reviewed. Initially, we were let down by the overly rich and heavy Canadian Burger flavored chips we tasted. The overall burger flavor execution was simply not achieved. However, then we tasted PC’s Moroccan Spice flavored chips, and they were an entirely different ball game. At first they reminded us of barbecue chips, but as the flavors developed we tasted everything from curry and ginger, to chile and cinnamon.
The flavor of these Smokin’ Stampede chips sort of reminds us of the Moroccan Spice chips, but without the complexity, and with an added layer (or two) of meaty smokiness. Overall, the flavor worked perfectly well with PC’s wide rippled potato chips, and did not completely overwhelm the chips with seasoning. One super guest Chip Review taster was so impressed with these Smokin’ Stampede chips that we cannot repeat any of the adjectives (…expletives) that @RedCouchComics suggested we use to accurately describe these chips. Lets just called them Crunchin’ good!!
