Yeah, yeah, we know, we are a bit behind on getting to these ones….
Ruffles Max Limited Edition Flame Grilled Steak potato chips have been out for a little while now, and it appears that all of the usual review suspects have already weighed in with their thoughts: Fat Guy Food Blog, Junk Food Guy, Taquitos, and The Impulsive Buy.
Reviews have been fairly consistent, and from what we can tell, they all tend to be veering towards the positive end of the critical spectrum. As it turns out, we don’t look to be straying very far from the pack with our review either, because overall we were really pleasantly surprised with the taste of these chips.
The populous opinions for these flame grilled steak flavored chips seem to be relatively inline regarding three major components: 1) These chips do not smell very good; opinions varied from the smell of dog food, to the smell of death….need we say more? 2) Flavor execution for the most part was surprisingly accurate. Most reviewers seemed to agree that they did taste smoky, charred, (very onion-y), grilled steak. 3) Lastly, regardless of the aforementioned flavor execution, everyone seemed to agree that these Ruffles Max chips were tasty goodness.
So what else do we have to add at this juncture in the game? Not much! Lets just say we really appreciated the subtle level of savoriness to these chips. Nothing shocking, or tongue tingling, or earth shattering, just simple, smooth and mellow, smoky meat flavor that worked rather well with Ruffles standard, fairly greasy, narrow rippled, medium thickness potato chips. They may not make our Top 5 Meat Flavored Chips All-Time, but they are a welcome addition to the beef flavored chip family.
