These Cheddar & Horseradish potato chips are the second half of the new salty snack duo (if we may call them that), from everyone’s favorite Hawaiian shirt wearing trading post.
We can’t argue one bit with Trader Joe’s description that these chips are “delightfully flavored, cheesy spicy and wavy kettle”. That sums them up pretty good. In fact, looking back through our database, in our opinion, these are most likely the best tasting chips that we have ever tried from Trader Joe’s.
As a whole, it appears that we either really like the flavor combination of Cheddar & Horseradish, or it is really just easy to execute the flavor accurately for all manufacturers (thus far). For any of you unfamiliar with horseradish, you will be in for a bit of a surprise when you first taste these chips (or, any horseradish flavored chips for that matter). Immediately, a short-lived but potent spicy, punch explodes into your mouth and nasal cavity (again, you have been warned if you have never tried horseradish). Luckily, the smooth, funky cheddar cheese calmly subdues the pungent wild root. The yin and yang flavor combo works wonderfully.
The wide rippled, kettle cooked, potato chips are very reminiscent of some other wavy kettle chips, that we recently tasted. In fact, their texture, appearance and crunch are so similar, that we would possibly be willing to put money on the chance that Krunchers! are making the chips for Trader Joe’s. Can anyone out there confirm? Deny? Shed any light onto this possibility? The chips themselves are extra wavy, extra crunchy, on the thicker side and work very well with the powerful seasoning that is coating them.
These are our thoughts, agree or disagree, make sure to let us know!
