Pringles Tortillas - Southwestern Ranch

Dear Pringles Tortillas,

First of all, let us happily welcome you to the family!  And secondly, can we just tell you that we adore Pringles’ persistence, drive, and never-ending desire to NOT remain content with remaining stagnant like so many others in the industry we love so often become.  We recognize and appreciate your hardwork!

Chip Review

Looking back through our many ratings and reviews of Pringles over the years, it is apparent that we have enjoyed a roller coaster of reactions along the way.  Pringles is certainly one of the big dogs in the industry, and the fact that they continually push themselves to create new and original items for all of us to review, whether it be to enjoy or not, we must be impressed.

Well, it looks like most of the big guys have already weighed in with their own thoughts regarding Pringles latest creation.  Both, Junk Food Guy and The Impulsive Buy appear to be impressed, but maybe not to the same extent that we were with the Southwestern Ranch flavored ones!  We’d go so far as to say that Pringles Tortillas Southwestern Ranch Crisps are some of the best Ranch chips (sorry, crisps) that we have ever tried.  We will have to do a little bit more research, but they may even be making our Top 5 Ranch flavored chips of all-time when all is said and done (stay tuned for that list being released in the very near future).

First, lets discuss the intricacies of Pringles’ corn tortilla crisps themselves.  The Tortillas are a bit heartier, denser, crunchier, and can we call it more “rustic” essence than Pringles’ traditional potato crisps.  Their mouth-feel is similar to the potato-based Pringles, only less brittle.  They still inhabit Pringles’ classically curved, oval, fit into a tall canister, uniform design.  The corn flavor is present, but does feel a bit manipulated.  Come to think of it, these may be the first tortilla CRISPS that we have ever tasted….but, what actually constitutes, or more correctly separates a tortilla crisp from a chip is beyond us?!?

Smack!  Smack…smack-smack!!  What’s that?  That’s the sound of our taste buds getting thoroughly pummeled by Pringles’ one-two powerful southwestern ranch flavor punch.  Pringles is not messing around with the southwestern aspect of this flavor, and these are not your typical run of the mill ranch flavor.  Imagine ranch with a kick, and with an attitude.  Although the ingredients’ list only indicates “spices” we’re fairly certain that we taste some jalapeno pepper somewhere in there.

After the initial zippy flavor blast comes the undeniably smooth ranch flavor.  Bell pepper, dried black bean, tomato powder, sour cream, garlic and always delicious.  Come to think of it, these crisps really remind us of Taco Bell’s Ranch Loco Taco.  More like the real taco combination, than that of the over-hyped Ranch Locos Tacos tortilla chips.

So, all in all, we must say that we were rather impressed with this latest flavor from the world’s utmost crisp dynasty.  Even if the crisps themselves really aren’t that revelatory of a new concept when compared to their Multigrain Pringles.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
