Laurel Hill - Everything Pretzel Chips

Comments:

Initial reaction: not good!

Upon tearing open the bag and taking in a large powerful sniff, we discover that these really smell horrendous!  We can only hope, that they actually taste better than they smell!!  Unfortunately for us, the hope is only slightly!

First, what is the deal with the peace symbol shaped pretzel “chips”?  Sort of fun, sure, but can anyone tell us what the correlation between Laurel Hill pretzels, and ‘peace’ is?  Because we’re not really sure at all!  As for the pretzel “chips” they are slightly flattened pretzels, but still retain a hearty amount of bread-ful body, and in our opinion, do not really represent the “chip” aspect of their description very accurately.  Plain and simple, describing these as chips is a bit of stretch!  Rather, imagine somewhere between a traditional hard pretzel, a breadstick, and those other popular pretzel “chips”.  We were imagining a more crispy and thin product.

The ‘everything’ seasoning combination is pretty spot on to what we have come to recognize from everyone’s favorite bagel flavor!  However, maybe with just a bit too much strong garlic presence, slightly throwing off the flavor balance (granted, we might be nitpicking a bit here).  It wasn’t exactly that we couldn’t taste any of the other ingredients, we did pick up a little flavor from the onion and sesame seeds, but certainly playing second fiddle to the powerful, dehydrated garlic punch.  And, you can call us sticklers but we think that the addition of caraway seed may have helped counter the garlic, and balance out the combo a little better.  We are well aware that the caraway seed can be a touchy ingredient subject for everything bagels, but personally we love it!

Laurel Hill may make some of the best tasting potato chips out there, but we just can’t quite say the same for their Pretzel Chips.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
