Just a few days ago we reviewed a different sort of spicy cheese popcorn, and while that one was notable, yet disappointing, Jenny’s Old Fashioned Hot Cheese Popcorn was extremely lip-smacking, and utterly surprising!
WOW! Spicy? Check. Cheesy? Check. Popcorn? Check! Super tasty? Check, check!
First, let us discuss Jenny’s unique popcorn itself. No extra light and puffy popcorn here, instead each kernel was extra hearty and toothsome. We really loved the rich, and savory flavor that the popcorn exuded, not sure if it came more from the corn being used, or the oil. Some kernels even had a slightly overcooked, nutty, burnt flavor to them, adding to the flavor depth, and their rusticity. Plain and simple, the popcorn tastes homemade, or as Jenny calls it “old fashioned”.
What really sets this popcorn apart is the hot cheese seasoning, because really it is so much more than simply hot cheese. Of course it does include a good amount of heat, and plenty of salty cheese, but what sets it apart is the inclusion of some sweet sugar, and some smoky paprika! To top it off, or round it out, there is also a good dash of flavorful garlic in the background. The sweet, and salty, and savory, and smoky, and spicy, combo is simply delicious. And for those of you concerned, the heat level is moderately spicy, but does diminish rather quickly, so there is none of that lingering heat that requires a glass full of milk.
We love this popcorn, and we wish it was available in our region of the country. It is without a doubt one of the best salty snacks we have tried this year, and easily some of the best popcorn we have ever tasted!
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
