REVIEW: Pringles – Exclusive Flavor Wasabi & Soy Sauce

Pringles - Wasabi & Soy SaucePringles All New Wasabi & Soy Sauce crisps are a Walmart exclusive flavor!  That’s right, if you want to enjoy these tasty potato crisps you are going to have to either visit the goliath department store, or find someone to do your Wally World shopping for you!  In the name of chip reviewing, and being the professionals that we are, we packed our bags and traveled out to the Chicago suburbs in search of the new Japanese inspired Pringles.  Luckily for us, we spotted them at the first Walmart we visited, and popped the canister open even before reaching the registers!

As we sat down and began writing this review we got to thinking “when was our last review of a new flavor of Pringles?”  Turns out that it has been nearly 3 months since we reviewed any new Pringles!  THREE MONTHS!  While three months may not seem like that long of time to many of you, let us just tell you that in Pringles’ months we’re talking about a very long time between new reviews!!

We are very, very happy to report that Pringles Wasabi & Soy Sauce crisps are really, really SPOT ON!!  Seriously, we’ve tried quite a few different Wasabi flavored chips, and these taste as much like wasabi as anything we have tried.  We have not tasted very many Soy flavored chips, but we have of course splashed the salty gluten-ful condiment on many a grain of rice, and these crisps taste like they have been splashed as well!

As soon as we popped the top off of the canister, very prominent aromatic notes of soy sauce permeated the air even before we could poke our nose in for a whiff.  The lightly green dusted potato crisps deliver a wallop of dependable wasabi nasal heat that invades the entire mouth and nasal cavities.  Luckily, the punch dies off quickly, and allows our taste buds to mingle with the deliciously salty and unmistakeable flavor notes of soy sauce.  With each potato crisp we crunched, Pringles transported us to our local sushi joint where we often grace our favorite maki rolls with a little dab of green wasabi paste, and a quick dip into the small soy sauce cup.  A delicious combination, and Pringles has NAILED the flavor!  Bravo!!

Despite Pringles accurate flavor execution, the other half of this equation is whether or not these flavors work with Pringles potato crisps?  And, for the most part they do.  We would probably appreciate a thicker chip, with a bit more of its own flavor to combat the strong wasabi and soy flavors, but the Pringles potato crisps work adequately as a delivery canvas to showcase these flavors.

We really like these bold, lip-smacking new crisps from Pringles.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

  2. I bought a can of this chips and i feel the flavor is way too strong. I need some kind of deep to go along side with them. None the less a good chip.

  3. These are the best potato chips I have ever tasted. I absolutely love them! The wasabi is mild and the soy is sweet. Best flavor combination in my opinion. Takes me back to the sushi restaurant every time I pop one!
