We’ve told you once or twice before that we usually try to refrain from reviewing, what we refer to as, “generic” grocery store lines of chips. But, every now and again, those “generic” brands give us something so special, so delicious, that we just HAVE TO review them! Case in point – 365’s Baked Tamarind Naan Chips!
In fact, 365 Everyday Value (Whole Foods private label) just so happens to be one of those “generic” brands that we have reviewed more than once. Everyone has to bend the rules every once in a while right?!
Alright, we are sure some of you out there are asking it, so we might as well get the specifics out of the way right from the get go….
Naan = is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread found in the cuisines of West, Central, and South Asia. And now, in crunchy chip form. Think pita chips.
Tamarind = is a tree indigenous to Africa (we typically recognize tamarind from Mexican cooking, but these chips are definitely “inspired by the authentic flavors of India”). The tamarind tree produces edible, pod-like fruit which is used extensively in cuisines around the world, and is often described as sweet and sour.
The citrus-y fragrant naan chips deliver a punchy, tangy, sour, slightly sweet and ultimately delicious taste. In other words, the tamarind provides amazing depth using layers and layers of intricate flavors. WOW! Did we say tangy?! We are really impressed with these fantastically unique chips!
The very dark seasoning heavily covers the chips. Luckily the naan chips are sturdy and hearty enough to combat and embrace the tamarind flavor onslaught!! Naan chips are very similar to pita chips in shape and flavor but their texture is a bit more crisp and light.
We don’t have anything else to say. If you see these, you should definitely do yourself a favor and give them a try!!
As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
