If you would have told us last year that this year we would have TWO 7eleven convenience store chips making our ‘best of’ list, we would have told you that you were crazy!  As it turns out, we’re actually crazy……. CRAZY for these chips!!  So crazy in fact, that they have made our Top 5 Meat list.

7eleven - Spicy Guacamole Tortilla Chips

Original Review Here

We’re sure that there are some of you out there that say you don’t like, or don’t really even eat, avocado; but we’re also sure that many of you same people enjoy a well made guacamole with your tortilla chips from time to time.  Well, these gas station chips offer up a version that we should all be able to enjoy!

BIJOU-REVIEW: 7 Select – Smoked Gouda Kettle Style Potato Chips

Rating: ©-3/4 chips  (return to sender)

7-select-smoked-gouda-kettle-styleWe picked up 7 Select’s Smoked Gouda Cheese Kettle Style Potato Chips on a recent stop at….. That’s right, you guessed it 7-Eleven.

What we wish we could say was that at a recent stop to 7-Eleven we happily did not pick up a bag of 7 Select’s Smoked Gouda Cheese Kettle Style Potato Chips….

Because these chips are B – A – D…..  Bad!

Similar to 7 Select’s Maple Bacon Potato Chips the chips suffer, actually fail, from an extremely heavy hand of salt.

Any thoughts of smoked Gouda cheese upon tossing a chip into the chompar are quickly obliterated by the true flavor of these chips – ocean water.

Maybe, just maybe, there is a hint of smoke flavor somewhere off in the distance.

The kettle chips themselves are decent enough, and certainly do their job – that is if there job is technically salt delivery.

Medium-thick cut, Solid crunch, but no potato flavor.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: 7 Select – Hot Italian Sausage Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©©-3/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

7 Select - Hot Italian Sausage Potato Chips7 Select has been on a creative flavor roll as of lately!

7 Select’s newest “Certified Rockin’ Flavor:Hot Italian Sausage!  (what the heck is a ‘Certified Rockin’ Flavor’?!?)

Yeah – yeah, we know, HOT ITALIAN SAUSAGE, let the jokes begin….

Okay, that’s probably enough….

Alright, just one more….

Are you finished?  Let’s get down to business here.

Upon ripping the extremely brightly colored potato chip bag open, we were smacked with an intensely strong aroma.  Some of us here at Chip Review looooved the smell, while others thought it was a bit off-putting.  But, one thing all of us could agree on is that it was a distinctly powerful aroma.  What is that scent?  Licorice? Anise??  Oh, it has to be fennel!

After our noses had finally adjusted, we took the leap, reached in, and grabbed a big handful of the Hot Italian Sausage potato chips, and you know what…?  These are fantastic tasting chips!  All at once salty, with smokey-grilled notes evoking thoughts of meat flavors, mingling with a good dash of long-lingering heat, and some classic Italian spices.  Frankly, here in Chicago we usually enjoy our grilled Italian sausages with a good layer of the perfect condiment – hot pickled giardiniera (and sweet peppers, if you’re into that).  In fact, giardiniera could possibly have pushed these 7 Selects into that next level rating category.

Long review short, these are some deliciously impressive convenient store potato chips!  If you happen to find yourself in a 7 eleven sometime soon, we encourage you to take an extra look for these, and grab yourself a bag or five.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: 7 Select – Spicy Guacamole Thin Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

7eleven - Spicy Guacamole Tortilla ChipsWhat do we have here?  Spicy Guacamole thin tortilla chips?  Yes please!

Punch to the tongue.  Great flavor.

Spicy chili pepper heat forward.

Delicious cayenne pepper sauce flavor, with notes of garlic and vinegar.

Followed by a tangy, vegetal, even more garlicky, and creamy buttermilk seasoning.

Does anything actually taste like guacamole?  No, not really.  There’s definitely no avocado among the ingredients.  But, the seasoning is delicious, and unlike anything else we have ever really tried – and that even goes for other spicy guacamole chips we have tried.

7 Select’s thin tortilla chips are light and crispy.  They pair perfectly with the seasoning.  Impressive convenience store chips to say the least.

BIJOU-REVIEW: 7 Select – Sriracha Kettle Style Potato Chips

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

7 Select - Sriracha Potato ChipsThat’s right, yet another addition to the ever growing SRIRACHA flavored snack family.  Is there really any food medium that sriracha can’t, or won’t, attempt to SRIRACHA-IZE?!  Based on the yogurt we recently saw at the grocery store, it doesn’t appear so!

We picked up these latest 7 Select’s on a recent stop to (where else) 7-Eleven.  As usual, we weren’t necessarily excited to try another sriracha flavored potato chip, but we were drawn to the green cap, and the promise of those familiar flavors.

As for those flavors, well, they were present for the most part, but they were SOOOO subtle.

Sweet?  Check.  Probably a touch too sweet in our opinion (but then again we typically say that about any sweet chip, don’t we?).

Spicy?  Nah, not really.  A touch of chili flavor, but not really any heat.

Garlic?  Yep.  What flavored chip doesn’t include garlic?

So, the major flavor players were there but we just weren’t impressed.  Nothing special, nothing bold or commanding.

The kettle chips are wavy, or krinkle cut, and have a really solid crunch, but no potato flavor.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
