Alaska Chip - Volcano JalapenoJust as we were beginning to believe that the Alaska Chip Company made much better popcorn than it did actual chips, along comes these amazing Katmai Volcano Jalapeño flavored gourmet kettle cooked potato chips!

So, what exactly is Katmai Volcano?  According to the world wide web’s technical gobbledygook, Mount Katmai is one of five vents encircling the Novarupta volcano, source of the VEI 6 eruption and associated voluminous pyroclastic flows in 1912…..  Um, yeah, we’re just going to go ahead and say that the Mount Katmai Volcano is the namesake to easily the most deliciously spicy jalapeño flavored potato chips that have ever erupted our taste buds from the great state of Alaska!

What Alaska Chip Company delivers for jalapeño flavor is most certainly a deliciously unique rendition.  An ingredient combination that had us saying HUH? WHOA. WOW! from the very get go!  Sour, and tangy, and pickle-y, and of course the usual spicy, and vegetal.  This creative jalapeño flavor variation is the result of garlic, onion, vinegar, citric acid and yes, lemon juice – Boom!  Heck, A.C. Co. even throws in some parsley just to class the chips up a little bit!

The kettle cooked potato chips themselves are on the thinner end of the spectrum, with a decently solid crispy crunch.  A little bit oily, but in delicious mouth pleasing sort of way, and at the same time, delivering a good amount of real Alaskan potato flavor.  All in all, extremely impressive gourmet kettle cooked potato chips!

Alaska Chip Company’s Katmai Volcano Jalapeño Potato Chips are so tasty that we had to update our Top 5 (actually Top 9) Jalapeño Flavored “Chips” of all-time.  So, if you happen to find yourself in Alaska, and you have that craving for some deliciously spicy kettle chips, these are your no brainer choice.  And while you are there, if you could pick us up a bag or two, we would really appreciate it!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Alaska Chip Company – Carnival Corn

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

Alaska Chip Co. - Carnival CornFun stuff!!

What more can we say really?

Do you have children?  Are you a kid yourself?  Well, then this colorful Carnival Corn is probably right up your alley.

We were a little surprised to find that these different colors of popcorn, actually provided different sweet flavors as well.  We would have thought that they were all simply sugar flavored, but nope!

Carnival Corn consists of: caramel colored caramel flavor, red cherry, blue raspberry and purple grape.  And believe it or not, the fruity flavors actually taste oddly like sugary fruit.

Enough said, this stuff is fun.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Alaska Chip Company – Grizzly Barbecue Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©-1/2 chips  (notable)

Alaska Chip Co. - Grizzly Barbecue ChipsGrizzly may just be the perfect adjective to describe these barbecue flavored potato chips.

ACC’s gourmet kettle cooked chips have just a hint of sweetness, and really only a minimal touch of those barbecue flavors of tomato, garlic and onion.

In the end, these kettle chips are all about the savory hickory grizzly barbecue essence.  A smoky, sort of burly, strong mesquite flavor presence.

We’re wishing that they had that tang, that sour, that extra layer of of some flavor note to help subdue the powerful smoke.  Alas, these chips are a bit one note, albeit, still notably eatable.

The kettle cooked potato chips themselves are delicious.  Medium-thin cut, with a perfect level to crispiness.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Alaska Chip Company – Cheddar Cheese Popcorn

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Alaska Chip Company - Cheddar Cheese PopcornWe’ve already said this once before in regards to Alaska Chip Company, but isn’t it sort of funny when a company who describes itself as a ‘chip company’ decides to make something other than chips?  For instance, cheddar cheese popcorn.  Not funny?

Alaska Chip Co. seems to have a great knack for making popcorn.

With this latest cheddar cheese flavor, the outcome seems to be no different – really good popcorn!

Alaska Chip Company’s particular cheddar cheese seasoning blend is a fun and unique one.  At certain points it tastes as if there is mustard powder in there.  Plus, the combination of cheddar & bleu cheese, mixed with a little garlic & onion impart a deliciously salty & tangy flavor combination!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Alaska Chip Company – Chilkoot Sour Cream & Chive Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©-1/2 chips  (notable)

Alaska Chip Co - Sour Cream & ChiveIf you’re a regular around these parts, then you know that we’ve already told you all about Chip Review’s favorite Sour Cream & Cheddar Cheese Chips (and you’ve told us yours).  So, when we taste any new bag of chips, we always wonder if these could possibly be THE chips that crack the list, and knock off one of our favorites from the Top 5…..

Who knew that potato chips were being made in Alaska?  Before a little while ago, not us! We were as surprised as you!  And, in case you are unaware, there’s popcorn being made there as well – really tasty popcorn!

So, what the heck is Chilkoot?  Well, apparently it is an obsolete gold rush trail that runs from Alaska into Canada.  Maybe a better question would have been, what the heck does Chilkoot have to do with Sour Cream & Chives flavored chips?!  That, we’re not quite sure of….

Alaska Chip Company’s kettle cooked potato chips are on the thinner end of the spectrum, with a good solid crispy crunch, a little bit oily, and plenty of real Alaskan potato flavor.

The seasoning on these just didn’t quite do it for us.  An odd flavor combination of rather sweet, and also sour, creamy buttermilk, mingling with pungently potent chives, was just a bit disjointed for us. Not that these chips were necessarily bad per se, but they just didn’t do it for us.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
