BIJOU-REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps Limited Batch – Bacon Habanero

We have wanted to try these new Pretzel Crisps ever since The Impulsive Buy spotted them on Safeway shelves some four months ago….

We mean come’on – BACON & HABANERO?!?!  Yes & Yes – Please!!

In fact, these aren’t the first bacon habanero flavored chips that we have tried.  Last year Late July’s lip-smacking tortilla chips wowed us.

Let’s hope that this flavor combo becomes a new standard among all chip companies – because there could be nothing wrong with that!

Smokey, salty, delicious bacon essence exudes from the Pretzel Crisps.

The flavor is sort of reminiscent of barbeque seasoning, and we are surprised to see that Pretzel Crisps has never offered the classic flavor as an option….

Unfortunately, similar to Late July’s chips, these Pretzel Crisps suffer from a case of no-habanero-flavor-idous. Maybe, just maybe, we get a little bit of the chili flavor deep behind the bacon, and there is a subtle burn when all is said and done.

But really, this seasoning is all about the bacon.

The crisps are tasty, and salty bacon flavor works well with the pretzels (not quite as well as Late July’s corn-ful tortilla chips), but we still really wish that we could taste some habanero!

Another welcome addition to Pretzel Crisps’ line-up.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps – Sriracha & Lime Deli Style

Always an exciting thing when a new flavor appears from Pretzel Crisps!  Even more exciting when that flavor, in this case combo, is a completely new one to us (albeit, simply just a riff on the classic chili & lime flavor combo, but using today’s most popular hot sauce!).

Fair to say that we pretty much enjoy Pretzel Crisps’ entire line-up.

As soon as we tore into the bag, a distinct cistrus-y lime essence floated into the air.

Unfortunately, these do not really taste like sriracha in any way, shape or form.   At least any sriracha that we know.  Tasted more like an ultra salty, and citrus-y, buffalo sauce.  That being said, they were pretty darn tasty, and their heat level does build quite significantly after a couple of handfuls.

REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps – Honey Mustard & Onion Deli Style

Who doesn’t love Pretzel Crisps?!?  Ever since the flat, crispy pretzel hybrids hit the market shelves years ago, it seems as though they can do no wrong, and their popularity has no boundaries.  As for us here at Chip Review we are always happy to see a new flavor addition from the company that reminds us to “rethink your pretzel!”  Pretzel Crisps, our favorite flattened pretzel-cracker-chip hybrids, continues their push onward, braving once again the pretzel flavored waters in search of even more tasty combinations for everyone to enjoy – we can honestly say that we have yet to taste a single flavor that we didn’t enjoy!

Well, these new Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel Crisps are tasty, and the flavors meld well with the light and crispy pretzels; just not quite as well as some of their more inventive flavor combos like Buffalo Wing, Jalapeno Jack, Chipotle Cheddar or even Cinnamon Toast.  But, then again, when you have so many stars in your repertoire, even tasty flavors can become slightly over-shadowed.

We are all aware of the fact that pretzels go well with honey and mustard.  A balanced flavor combination that compliments each ingredient.  The addition of onion definitely adds some depth and salty tang to the recipe, as well as, a pungent background aroma.  We really appreciated that the honey aspect was not overly sweet, and how Pretzel Crisps did not shy away from including some of mustard’s spicy nasal bite.

Honey and mustard have been served alongside crispy, hot, bar pretzels for as long as we can remember; so to describe this new flavor choice as a creative choice for Pretzel Crisps, would be a bit of a stretch for us.  We always love new flavors, but at the end of the day we want the boundaries pushed!  If you are simply going to put out another version of an already established flavor combo, it had better be either the best version of that flavor combo, or have something that differentiates it from the rest of the pack!

If you are already fans of Pretzel Crisps, then you will have no problem accepting their newest addition to the family!  The classic flavor combo compliments the airy, crunchy crisps just enough that you could enjoy them with some accoutrements, or just as easily crunch them on their own.  As for us, we just hope Pretzel Crisps continues on with their flavor journey for a long time to come, because we love to rethink what we think about pretzels!

REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps – Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper Deli Style

We are always happy to see a new flavor addition from the company that reminds us to “rethink your pretzel!”  Pretzel Crisps, our favorite flattened pretzel-cracker-chip hybrids, continues their push onward, braving once again the pretzel flavored waters in search of even more tasty combinations for everyone to enjoy – we can honestly say that we have yet to taste a single flavor that we didn’t enjoy!

Well, these New Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper Pretzel Crisps are notably tasty, and the flavors seem to meld well with the light and crispy pretzels; just not quite as well as some of their other flavor combos like Buffalo Wing, Jalapeno Jack, Chipotle Cheddar or even Cinnamon Toast.  Then again, when you have so many stars in your repertoire, even very tasty flavors can become slightly over-shadowed.

This sea salt and cracked pepper seasoning combination is not as simple as it may seem at first glance.  As we’ve pointed out many times before, many of the salt & pepper snacks on the market today tend to be purists, or perhaps minimalists.  They keep the seasoning straight, and to the point – something along the lines of 4 simple ingredients: potatoes, oil, salt and pepper.  Well, you can call it cheating, or you can call it brilliant, but brands like Pretzel Crisps prefer to up the flavor ante (a lot), and add a handful of other complimentary background flavors like onion and garlic to enhance, and enrich the classic S&P combination.

If you are already fans of Pretzel Crisps, than you will have no problem accepting their newest addition to the family!  The vibrant, tasty seasoning compliments the airy, crunchy crisps just enough that you could enjoy them with some cheese or a dip, or just as easily crunch them on their own.  As for us, we just hope Pretzel Crisps continues on with their flavor journey for a long time to come, because we love to rethink what we think about pretzels!
