Someone call the fire department, because our mouths are burning!!!  And while you’re at it, would you please dial the delicious department, and let them know that we may have just found what they’ve been missing!

We’d known about the existence of these chips for quite some time here at Chip Review, but for one reason or another, we had never stumbled upon them.  Well, today is that day, and we are very pleased say, without any further delay, “hip-hip-hooray!!” (sorry, just couldn’t refrain…..).

If all you want is the short and simple: YUM!  Yum, yum, yum.  These are unique and tasty, amazing chips!  That’s our take, you need not read on any further….

But, for an explanation on said – “YUM”, please continue.

Right away our mouths told us we had just presented them with something that they did not automatically recognize, and they weren’t quite sure if that meant a good thing, or a bad thing.  At first, we thought these chips were on the verge of being too cloyingly sweet.  But then our taste buds settled in and recognized the flavor as mango, except intensified quite a bit (probably due to the dehydration process concentrating the sweetness/flavor….who knows?).  So, it seemed like as soon as our minds were able to get passed the taste bud adjustment period….

WHAM! We are slapped upside the head by a powerfully spicy habanero blast of heat!  A heat, that only intensified immensely with time.  Seriously, if you can’t handle your spicy, then stay away from these chips.  Most of us at Chip Review were only able to sample a few of these before seeking dairy sanctity, but for those of us who love the spicy, these chips were amazing!  The best part of it was, unlike with most snacks claiming to be habanero flavored, we could actually taste the habanero chile, even through all that heat.

To round everything out, these chips include a splash of vinegar, which does help to cut through some of the sweetness a bit, along with the normal supporting characters of garlic and onion.  For good measure a bit of parsley was added…..and by good measure, we mean for color, because it definitely isn’t doing much else?

To summarize, we can’t praise these chips enough.  We love how this flavor combination is so well executed, and how it seems like it shouldn’t be, but combined with some light, crispy and salty kettle cooked potato chips, it just works!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Rhythm Super Foods – Mango Habanero Kale Chips

Rating: ©-1/4 chips  (return to sender)

Comments:

Ew….Ew…ew……ew!  Chip Review makes their own crunchy kale at home from time to time, and we think we may have to call up Rhythm Super Foods and give them some pointers.  We get it, these chips are uber healthy, but definitely at the expense of taste.  These chips give these chips, a run for their money, and most definitely make Chip Review’s top 5 worst chips we’ve tasted of all-time.

Chip Review found nothing about these chips appealing.  Clumps of kale stuck together using dried mango and nut paste.  Although they did have some chili heat, we couldn’t taste any habanero flavor at all.  To sum it up and to be completely honest, we did not feel very good after eating these chips……Ew!
