REVIEW: Chio Flips – Classic Peanut

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

Comments:

How to describe these to someone who has never tried, or even seen or heard, of a peanut flavored puff??  First, we would use the word – delicious!  Imagine deliciousness, and an image of peanut flavored puffs should eventually appear into your mind.  Basically, these Chio Flips are smaller puffed corn snacks, curl shaped, lightly tan colored, slightly dense and crunchy little nugget puffs with an undeniably, pure peanut (butter) flavor.

Again, we really must hand it to this German snack company, they keep us guessing, and guessing, and we just don’t know what to expect from them next.  We have not been able to distinguish any type of style consistency for Chio’s versatile snack spectrum.

Among the three slightly different peanut flavored puffs that we have tried thus far in our chip reviewing career, Chio’s Classic Peanut Flips undoubtedly have the most peanut-y essence!  Osem Bamba’s

peanut snack “treads the line between sweet, and savory, very nicely,” and Cheetos Mani Horneados transport us to another world, and time, by opening up the memory floodgates, however, it is Chio’s ultra savory version that really makes us say “holy, these are peanut-puffs!”  Pure, peanut flavored puffs, that seem as if they have been dipped into unsweetened peanut butter.  The puffs almost seem wet with peanut oil.  We appreciate Chio’s willingness to shy away from over sweetening the puffs.

The only thing keeping these peanut puffs from rating higher than Cheetos Chilean version, is their texture.  Chio’s puffs are a little too dense for our likes.  We appreciate a puff that melts when it hits the tongue.

For another take on some Flips, check out Crisp Nation’s review.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Osem – Bamba Peanut Snack

Rating: ©©©© chips (lip-smacking)

Osem - Bamba Peanut Snack

Comments:

For a nation that seems to love its peanuts, and peanut butter, in all of their amazing forms (pb&j, with chocolate, in the shell at ball games, and of course, in, and on, desserts of every type), we find it a bit weird here at Chip Review, that here in the U.S. we don’t really have that many peanut flavored salty snacks.  Think about it for a second…..

So, when we do stumble upon a peanut flavored salty snack we get very excited.  That is until we notice a review, just a few days after acquiring this snack, but before tasting it, from our friend Josh, over at Crisp Nation.  In case you did not click over to read his review, lets just say he was less than impressed with Osem’s Bamba Peanut Snack; and it seemed as though much of his review was based upon a comparison to another snack, of similar flavor, and texture, that he had really loved.

We too feel compelled to compare these Osem’s peanut puffs to a delicious version of the same type of snack that we found while in Chile.  And, while we also feel that Osem’s version may not be quite as tasty as the memory we have of Chester’s Chilean version, these peanut puffs are definitely not too shabby.  If you are a fan of peanuts, and/or peanut butter, then you would most likely really enjoy crunching on these.  They’re addictive.  The tender Bamba puffs melt in your mouth as soon as they hit the tongue.  The flavor is pure peanut, and treads the line between sweet, and savory, very nicely.  Probably most amazing was the fact that the puffs consisted of 49% peanuts, and only a handful of other ingredients (for that reason, we are going to tell ourselves that these are good for us).

PS – we must confess that after a lot pondering, we have finally determined what these peanut puffs remind us so very much of……Have you ever tried those plastic packaged, bright orange cheese crackers, filled with creamy peanut butter?  These taste EXACTLY like those.  So, if you spot these on your local shelves, give them a try and let us know.

We would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
