BIJOU-REVIEW: Good Health – Jalapeño Kettle Style Avocado Oil Potato Chips

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

good-health-avocado-oil-jalapeno-chipsGood Health Natural Foods chips may be good for our health, but not necessarily for our taste buds.

We have tasted other Avocado Oil Kettle Chips from Good Health Natural Foods, and for the most part we have been impressed….

But, these ones just don’t do it for us.

Same great medium cut, avocado oil kettle cooked, extra crispy, potato chips.

Where the chips went completely wrong for us was with their “jalapeño” seasoning.  Or, we actually say, lack there of!

Seriously, we have eaten plain potato chips that tasted more like the green, spicy chile pepper.

Maybe something was wrong with the bag we got, or maybe jalapeños aren’t good for one’s health (so they were left out of the bag)?  Either way, these chips do not deserve to be called jalapeño seasoning.

These are our thoughts, agree or disagree, make sure to let us know!

BIJOU-REVIEW: Good Health Half Naked – Hint of Olive Oil Popcorn

Rating: ©©-1/4 chips (tolerable)

Good Health - Hint Of Olive Oil Half Naked PopcornWell, all we can really say about this popcorn is that it better bring us “good health” because it really doesn’t bring us “good flavor”.

The popcorn itself is alright.  The light and crispy, bright white, butterfly popcorn does its job of simply being popcorn.

But the Hint of Olive Oil, along with any substantial amount of salt, is really lacking.  Basically, we couldn’t taste much of anything.  This popcorn wasn’t really “half naked” so much as it was bare naked!

We can appreciate a low calorie snack from time to time, but we appreciate these snacks even more when they can still bring the flavor.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Good Health – Lime Ranch Kettle Style Avocado Oil Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

Good Health - Lime Ranch Avocado Oil Kettle ChipsLooks like good old Good Health has gone ahead and revamped their good name, and good look, and done pretty good job!  What used to say Good Health Natural Foods in the top left corner of the chip bag, now says: Good Health – Enjoy Being Good.  Oh…we get it, Enjoy Being Good is the new slogan.  The catchy-catch phrase!  The perfect string of words that sums up exactly what Good Health wants us to think and remember about their chips.  While we may not necessarily condone this Being Good, we do wholeheartedly believe in Eating Chips, so feel free to grab a bag of Avocado Oil Kettle Chips whenever you may cross their paths!

Funny thing, looking back through the other Good Health chips that we have reviewed in the past, apparently “way back in the day” we actually tried another lime flavored potato chip from Good Health?  Honestly we can’t say that we can actually remember how they tasted, or what exactly the Chilean Lime (Chilean? What ingredient(s) would make the chips Chilean, as in from Chile? Or, are the limes from Chile, or does Chilean just sounds good…? We are confused) flavor consisted of, but apparently we thought that they were lip-smacking good.

From the back of the bag, Good Health tells us that “this fresh flavor is a killer combo of creamy & zingy – a perfect pairing with flavor-rich 100% Avocado Oil, which is known for its antioxidants and heart healthy monounsaturated fats so you can…Enjoy Being Good!” Well, we can concur that the lime ranch seasoning is in fact a killer combo of creamy & zingy, and avocado oil is known for its antioxidants and heart healthy…you get the picture.  Do we actually taste any difference with the use of avocado oil with these chips?  No, not really at all.  The potato chips themselves are good.  Medium to medium-thin thickness, with a lightly solid, and slightly toothsome or dense crunch that does not feel as crispy as other kettle cooked potato chips.  Not sure if this texture is a result of the type of potato being used, or use of avocado oil for frying?  The potato chips were all different shapes and sizes, but we’d say that the majority were on the smaller size of the chip spectrum.

Flavor wise these are decent.  The lime and ranch is a flavor combo that we have not seen very often, or possibly ever.  With these chips we certainly do taste the lime flavor aspect right off the bat.  A slightly sweet, slightly zingy-sour lime citrus punch, but all of that brightness dies off rather quickly.  As for the second half of the flavor equation, well, we really do not get any of the ranch flavor notes other than that of garlic. No black pepper, or herbs like dill or chive, and certainly no creaminess from the ranch buttermilk. Seriously, this combo had some intriguing promise, and despite the sweet and sour lime flavor mingling with a touch of pungent garlic tasting good, in the end we were sort of a let down as far as the flavor accuracy goes.

These are our thoughts, agree or disagree, make sure to let us know!

REVIEW: Good Health Natural Foods – Wild Blue Buffalo Half Naked Popcorn

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

Good Health Natural Foods - Wild Blue BuffaloFrom the back of the Wild Blue Buffalo bag:

All of the “Yee-Haa!” None of the “Uh-Oh.”
Who says you have to pack on the fat to enjoy the lip-smacking zing of spicy buffalo wings?

Well, good question, but after tasting this popcorn we actually say that the fat should be packed on to enjoy the lip-smacking zing of spicy buffalo wings!  This popcorn sounded like it had real promise to us, zesty buffalo sauce mixed with tangy bleu cheese somehow low in fat and calories, but in the end we were a bit let down with the execution and flavor.

First, the positives. The seasoning has a pretty good bleu cheese funk to it.  Aromatic, a little bitter, and slightly salty, and really does taste a bit like bleu cheese.  The buffalo wing seasoning does have some of that classic cayenne heat to it, but not a whole lot.  The popcorn itself is light and airy and crispy and very easy to crunch down.  But that’s about all the good things we can say about this Half Naked Popcorn.

Probably our most favorite part of any good buffalo wing sauce or seasoning is the over-the-top, aromatically pungent, vinegar tanginess!  Buffalo seasoning is never, ever subtle, nor should it be.  Unfortunately, this popcorn has cracked the recipe code and is exactly that!  None of the required vinegar nasal burn!  Seriously, none.  To top it off, the popcorn has no richness to it.  No fatty depth.  Which is of course sort of what Good Health Natural Foods is going for; but they should know that if the popcorn isn’t going to provide any fatty, delicious, comfort, than it needs to make up for it with some potent seasoning!!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
