Cheetos Mix-ups - Cheezy Salsa Mix

Comments:

What do we have here?  What exactly are we looking at?  To our surprise, and our transcendent childhood delight, upon opening this bag of the new Cheetos Mix-Ups Cheezy Salsa Mix we were immediately transfixed by the colorful array of ornamental cheesy snacks before us.  Never, never-ever, before this day had we laid eyes upon such an extreme, visual snack wonder.  For some of us, thoughts of Christmas tree ornaments from our yester-years came flooding in, while others compared the glowing snacks to unearthed jewels of buried treasure…..

To give you a better idea of what exactly we continue to clamber on and on about, check out Taquitos.net’s lovely, in the bag, photo of these radiant cheesy gems. Our only caveat with the pic, is that Taquitos did not capture any of the Mix-Ups’ bright red Salsa Picante Cheese Curls (our personal favorite among the four distinct cheesy shapes), anywhere in their photo (granted, we did not capture a single photo of the inside of bag, so maybe we should just keep our opinions to ourselves?).  We find it amazingly difficult to believe that these Mix-Ups are all natural……?  We kid.

Each shape and flavor component of these Mix-Ups was actually rather tasty on their own.  Cheetos – Cheezy Salsa Mix-Ups included: 1) The aforementioned Salsa Picante Crunchy Cheetos – a bright red, slightly spicy, not too much unlike the currently available on the market today – Salsa con Queso Crunchy Cheetos – only spicier.  2) The Jalapeno Cheddar Mini (“nuggets”) Puffs – neon green, slightly jalapeno and cheddar flavored 1/3rds of Puffs.  3) The standard Cheetos Cheese Puffs.  4) And probably the most unique among the bunch, the Chipotle Cheddar Grid-Shaped Cheetos – circular, basket-woven shapes that did involve a bit of smoky, and spicy chipotle chile flavor.

In theory, these Cheetos look (obviously – see comments above), and sound, like a huge winner.  Four unique Cheetos shapes, each presenting us with their own singular, tasty and cheesy flavor, yes please!  However, we are just going to come right out and say it: when all combined, we did not love these.  Our mouths were confused from the very moment we tossed in more than one shape at the same time.  It wasn’t necessarily that the shapes themselves threw us for a loop, but more so the jumbling of the different flavors.  All of the lovely, spicy, chile components disappeared among one another when more than one Cheeto was eaten at the same time.

We can appreciate the idea of these Mix-Ups, and definitely love them visually.  There’s no doubt in our minds that kids will devour these by the handfuls.  However, Chip Review would prefer to devour four individual bags of Cheezy Salsa Cheetos, rather than one big, Mixed-Up bag!

As always we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree.  Let us know.

Chip Review of the day…..

Cheetos Puffs – Limited Edition Smoked Cheddar

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

Comments:

It’s not very often that Cheetos brand markets a new product that we’re not 100% completely willing to stand behind, but with this latest Limited Edition creation, we have to be honest, we’re going to hide from it instead!

This is not one of those cases where the manufacturer mis-promoted their product, or couldn’t execute on some new flavor combination.  No, these cheese Puffs do indeed taste quite like smoked cheddar (in fact, too much in our opinions).  See, we appreciate smoked cheddar cheese, we like to use it on a good burger, or cold cut sandwich.  But, smoked cheddar cheese requires some other flavors to cut through, and compensate for its rich, smokey, pungent body, otherwise it is just way too powerful and overwhelming….hence, the case here.

The Puffs themselves seemed a bit larger than normal.  Maybe we just haven’t tasted Cheetos Puffs in a while, but we’re pretty sure these are larger than the originals.  Again, nobody likes change, we prefer the original’s size.

We’re sorry to say, but these are definitely one of our least favorite Cheetos products ever.  However, we also want to say that we appreciate Cheetos for continuing to push the boundaries, and not simply becoming stagnant and relying on their time tested classics.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
