Original Review Here

Yeah, yeah, we know.  These Cheetos actually came out last year for the winter-Christmas season.  Well, we for one reason or another didn’t give them a taste last year…. Come’on, give us a break, we’re pretty sure Chester would!

REVIEW: Cheetos Sweetos Limited Edition! – Cinnamon Sugar Puffs

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

cheetos-sweetos-cinnaon-sugar-puffsAnytime we see a new sweet variation from one of our typically savory snack companies, we are hesitant to give them a shot.  Which is why last year around this time, when Cheetos first released these Sweetos, we simply refrained from trying them…  Now that we have gone and bitten the bullet….

WHAT WERE WE THINKING!?!?!

Seriously, these are really quite delicious!

That’s right, every once in a while the chip companies can completely surprise us here at Chip Review, and create a fantastically sweet, and in this case, ever so slightly savory snack.  We would place Cheetos Sweetos smack dab along side other notable savory-gone-sweet successful snacks such as: Pretzel Crisps Cinnamon Toast, Snyder’s of Hanover’s S’mores Pretzel Pieces, and Pringles Tortillas Cinnamon Sugar (which in our books is some fine company to be included among).

Cheetos Sweetos Cinnamon Sugar Puffs are shaped like, we’re going to go with, sledding inner tubes – despite the fact that Chester has opted for the more classical racer sled.  The puffs are approximately half the size of a Funyun ring, but their texture is eerily similar.  The Cheetos do not exhibit their usual melt-y cheese puff texture, but more of a light and crispy, layered ring puff.

The ultra classic Cinnamon and Sugar combination works wonders with the puffs.  Delivering all at once an aromatically sweet treat, as well as, a savory richness.  A quick glance at the ingredients list shows that this savory layer has to come from the inclusion of buttermilk.  Everyone who was chomping on these agreed – they are delicious, and hard to stop eating.

Probably the best way that we can describe them to you is that they are like savory Cheetos ring puffs that have been crossed with the greatest of all sweet cereals – Waffle Crisp.  A marriage of rich, savory, butter notes dancing with sweet maple like syrup, and spicy, aromatic cinnamon.  Beautiful.

If you are fans of Cheetos (and we’re guessing that you are – who isn’t?), and you also like some sweet treats every now and again, then we suggest you give these a try.

BIJOU-REVIEW: ips – chips with protein – Cinnamon

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

ips - Cinnamonips….?  What the heck are ips??

Chips minus C & H = ips = intelligent protein snacks

Where does said “protein” come from?  Egg whites, believe it or not.

A long while back we reviewed a couple of other flavors from ips, and for the most part we were surprisingly impressed.

Well, same goes for these Cinnamon flavored ones – they have pleasantly surprised us again.

You know what these taste like?  Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but in chip form.

Mostly sweet, with fragrant notes of spicy cinnamon, and a good balance of seasoning that does not stray too far away from recognizing that these are actually chips.

Texture wise, ips chips are approximately quarter size, with a light and crispy crunch.

So, there you have it, another crunchy alternative now available on the market; making our decision of what to snack on even more difficult.

As always, these are our thoughts. Agree or disagree, make sure to let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Cheetos – Cinnamon, Banana & Minions (Japan)

Rating: ©©©-1/2 chips  (notable)

Cheetos - Minions BananaWe sometimes wonder here at Chip Review if the Japan population looks at our snack flavors – our Doritos Cool Ranch, our Cheetos Flamin’ Hot, and our Pringles Sour Cream & Onion – and thinks to themselves, wow, now those are those some REALLY WEIRD flavors!?

Well, we think that it is more than fair to say that the same can be said for Japan’s unique snacks!  We mean come’on, with this latest one we’re talking about Cinnamon Banana Minion Cheetos here!!!

Truth be told, we do not have very much to say about these.  They are, for lack of a better description, weird but surprisingly okay.  If you are looking for a thorough examination of them, make sure to check out The Impulsive Buy’s review, it’s a great read.

As for our thoughts, just imagine light yellow colored Crunchy Cheetos that have been slightly dusted with cinnamon, and even more slightly dusted with a fake banana flavor (we are unsure of whether or not we could taste any minion in there).  We here wished that there was a dash of salt somewhere in there to cut the too reminiscent of eating cereal sweetness, but unfortunately there was not.

We could eat these, but we won’t ever be ordering them from Japan again.  Stay tuned for two more unique Japanese Cheetos flavors soon.

Well, there you have it.  Anyone else out there tried them yet?  Thoughts?  As always we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree.  Let us know.

REVIEW: chipz Happen – Cinnful Sweet Heat Gourmet Tortilla Chipz

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

chipz Happen - Cinnful Sweet TreatCinnful Sweet Heat?  What the heck is Cinnful Sweet Heat?!?  Are these chips naughty or nice?  Is it getting hot in here, or is it just us?

It is no secret that we are fans of the sweet and salty snacks!  We love the classic interplay between the two polar opposites, and how the salt and sugar dance all over our taste buds.  But, what happens when a third element is added to that combination?  Is the perfect balance lost, or is it enhanced?  Well, the time has come to find out!

A little while ago we reviewed chipz Happen’s Spice-Z Parmesan Garlic Gourmet Tortilla Chipz, and we quite enjoyed them (again, a spicy twist on a classic seasoning combination!).  Rather than try and rewrite our thoughts on the tortilla chipz again, we figure why not just re-use those elegant words that we described them with previously:

First and foremost, is that these gourmet tortilla chips taste real.  They taste homemade.  In fact, they trigger tasty memories of those delicious, freshly fried, mom and pop’s Mexican restaurant tortilla chips that find their way to the table as soon as you are seated.  You know the ones that we are talking about, sturdy and rustic, and designed for scooping up as much of that delicious house made salsa as you can.  The chipz Happen appear to be made from quartered corn tortilla chips.  They are fairly dense and extra crunchy.  If you have a preference for light and crispy chips, then these may not be for you.  But if you like chips with a big crunch, then these would be right up your alley!

As for the Cinnful Sweet Heat seasoning, well, we are happy to report that it is crazy-weird, spicy, and cinnamon-ful, just like they say.  Truly a unique flavor combination unlike any other we have tried before!  And for that chipz Happen we say BRAVO!  Great job!!  But…when it comes down to it, we honestly can’t say that we love eating very many of the chips.  The chips are just too…sweet, too fragrant, and despite the invigorating cayenne throat burn that they deliver, are sort of lacking in flavor.  Or, should we just say SALT!  Where’s the salt?!?  Don’t they know that salt enhances everything?!  So much for our little speech about the classic sweet and salty combination above.  These chipz are simply sweet and heat!  Not a bad combo, and with the addition of cinnamon, really unique, but in our honest opinion, they would be so much better with salt!

So, in the end, we can say that were very impressed by these chipz.  We appreciate what chipz Happen has created, but we feel like these chipz had more potential.  Even just a little bit of salt added to the equation could really enhance, and compliment, those sweet, heat and cinnamon notes!  With these chipz the way they are, maybe it is just best to embrace those flavors, and take chipz Happen’s suggestion from the back of the packaging to “crunch over vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert.”  But, we like to eat our chips, and we like those chips salty!  To each their own.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
