Cape Cod – Roasted Black Garlic Kettle Cooked Potato Chips

Cape Cod - Roasted Black Garlic

Original Review Here

Like they say, once your garlic goes roasted black, it is never going to go back!  We discovered these lip-smacking ‘Limited Batch’ of Cape Cod chips on a short trip to…  You are probably expecting us to say the Cape Cod, but it was technically Connecticut – which is officially as close as we have ever traveled to Cape Cod, so that has to count for something!

BIJOU-REVIEW: The Better Chip – Radish Chia Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©-1/4 chips  (notable)

the-better-chip-radish-chiaDo not adjust your dial, or screen….

It is true, your eyes are not deceiving you….

These are in fact RADISH flavored chip!

Now, we’ve been in the chip game a long, long time, but this is definitely a new first.  Sure, there have been plenty of other weird flavors out there; we’re looking at you beet, and cappuccino, and feijoada, and marmite, but radish is right up there with the weirdest of them!

Unfortunately, we have tasted much better chips from The Better Chip company.

Now, these are not bad tortilla chips by any means.  They deliver a rustic, course ground corn tortilla texture that mingles with the little nutty pop of the chia seeds.

They also provided a perfectly ample amount of salt and garlic seasoning.

What the chips did not do was exude any sort of radish AT ALL!  Nada!  Nunca!!  Nothin’!!!

To say that we were disappointed by these would be absolutely correct.  We were really hoping to taste some pungently spicy radish flavored tortilla chips.  Alas, we will just have to wait for some better chips to actually do that!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Buck Wild – Garlic Sea Salt Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©-1/2 chips  (notable)

buck-wild-garlic-sea-saltTime to go BUCK WILD ONCE AGAIN!
Yep, we will never tire of saying that, and we will also never get used to the buck with aviators staring us down, insisting that we try the goodies inside of his bag!

A few months back we reviewed a few of Buck Wild’s other offerings, including their Roasted Garlic Popcorn.  We were big fans of this lip-smacking popcorn, in fact, we were fans of both of the flavors of popcorn we tried.  And wouldn’t you know it, it appears as though both of these flavors are getting the tortilla chip treatment now.  Granted, these chips are called Garlic Sea Salt, and the popcorn was Roasted Garlic, but (we’re going to let you in on a little secret) the seasonings taste very much the same.  The Chipotle Cheddar Popcorn has also gotten the tortilla chip treatment and we will be reviewing those soon as well.

So, as far as these Garlic Sea Salt tortilla chips go – we like them.  Like we said before the seasoning is very similar (if not identical) to the seasoning used on Buck Wild’s Roasted Garlic Popcorn.  Very garlic forward, with a sort of underlying sweetness, and a smooth, creamy finish.

Buck Wild’s tortilla chips are really good too.  All at once light, airy and crispy, as well as, a bit hearty and substantial.  A healthy scattering of flax and chia seeds can be found within the chips, and they deliver a nice and subtle textural enhancement that we appreciated it.

Overall, we did not quite love these chips as much as we did the garlic flavored popcorn.  Both the seasoning and chips are great in their own ways, but together they just don’t work quite as harmoniously as the popcorn and garlic did.

Buck Wild’s new tortilla chips are available (we believe exclusively) at Walmarts nationwide now, or at least very soon.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: PopCrinkles – Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt Popped Potato Crinkles

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

PopCrinkles - Roast GarlicWe have been striking it pungently rich this year with cloves of delicious garlic snacks!

And we are happy to report that these New PopCrinkles can be easily added to that list!

We had a sneaking feeling PopCrinkles logo looked very familiar, and as it turns out, PopCrinkles are the new “popped potato crinkles”, aka potato crisps, from the creators of “the new shape of popcorn”, aka popcorn chips – PopCorners.

In other words, PopCrinkles has hopped right onto the popular popped potato bus, and hopes to ride it all the way to popular popped potato palace.

If these first crinkles are any indication of the entire flavor line-up than PopCrinkles is definitely headed in the right direction.

The popped potato crinkles are thicker than regular potato chips, and deliver a significantly solid crunch.  And yet at the same time are light and crispy enough that you can eat an entire bag and not really feel a dent in the old chip collector.

The crinkles deliver enough “real” potato flake flavor to evoke thoughts of eating delicious fried potato slices.

The Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt flavor delivers a deliciously well balanced seasoning blend.  Certainly not as powerfully garlic flavored as other garlic chips on the market.

We also wouldn’t go so far as to call it the most authentic representation of roasted garlic flavor, with the inclusion of ingredients such as: sour cream, brown sugar, cheddar cheese, butter powder, whey, and yeast extract…

All in all we are very pleased with PopCorners new PopCrinkles, and hope to see PopPuffs and PopPretzels soon!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Buck Wild – Roasted Garlic Popcorn

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Buck Wild - Roasted Garlic PopcornTime to go BUCK WILD again!
There’s no denying it, that is just fun to say.

A few weeks ago we reviewed Buck Wild’s Chipotle Cheddar Popcorn, and thought it was pretty good, fortunately the Roasted Garlic is even better.

Do you like garlic?  Okay.  But, do you like lots and lots of garlic?  You do?  Perfect, you may pass.

Here’s one of those flavors where there is no question about, or denying of, what flavor is being represented.  The popcorn tastes like roasted garlic – plain and simple.

But….there’s always a “but” right?  But, the flavor depths do not stop at roasted garlic alone.  There also appears to be this somewhat creamy, and certainly rich, flavor layer that according to the list on the back is none other than popcorn’s best friend – BUTTER.

The Buck Wild popcorn kernels are irregular with some big, and some little, some uniformly round, while others were oddly shaped.  The kernels had a solid body delivering a toothsome bite, while still providing a light and crispy freshness.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Uncle Ray’s – Roasted Garlic Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Uncle Ray's - Roasted GarlicGREAT GARLICKY GOODNESS!!

Warning: if you are a vampire, or have an aversion to garlic, you will want to stay away from these!

We can really appreciate the simplicity of these potato chips.

There is not one shred of doubt regarding what the intention of these chips really is.

Plain and simple, garlic flavored potato chips.

We wouldn’t go so far as to call them “roasted” garlic, as we don’t really get much of that sticky-sweet-caramelized garlic flavor.  Instead, these are potent, pungent, GARLIC flavored potato chips.

The potato chips are very thin cut, crispy, and deliver a good amount of delicious potato flavor.

We could eat these all day long, and then we could work the entire next day on getting our breath to smell anything like garlic!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Cape Cod – Roasted Black Garlic Kettle Cooked Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

Cape Cod - Roasted Black GarlicOne word: Umami-tang-a-funk-a-licious!

That’s right, Cape Cod’s newer-ish Limited Batch kettle cooked potato chips are deliciously tangy, funky and unique.

First, let’s discuss the question that at least some of us are thinking “what is black garlic?”  Is it a varietal of garlic?  Is it old rotten garlic?

According to the world wide web: “Black garlic is a type of caramelized garlic (a Maillard reaction, not fermentation)….made by heating whole bulbs of garlic over the course of several weeks, a process that results in black cloves. The taste is sweet and syrupy with hints of balsamic vinegar or tamarind.” (wikipedia.com)

Well, we can certainly concur these chips exude notes of sweet and syrupy balsamic vinegar.  In fact, they practically deliver a sticky mouth sensation, without actually being sticky at all.

There are still hints of what we typically recognize as garlic flavor – fragrant, pungent, earthy, only without any of the usual “spicy” bite.  That heat has been converted into sweet.  Sort of like roasting garlic, only not really at all….

Plain and simple, these chips are unlike anything else on the market today.  Bravo to Cape Cod for attempting this flavor, and delivering something so funky and weird.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
