BIJOU-REVIEW: Uncle Ray’s – Lightly Salted Popcorn

Rating: ©©© chips  (notable)

Lightly salted popcorn is right.

Really, not much more to say.

Light, airy, crispy, bright white kernels.

Very little fat content, and lightly salted.

Uncle Ray’s popcorn is perfectly snackable, if you are looking for any something to crunch on; but it is certainly nothing special, and also nothing we would be choosing over most other RTE popcorn on the market.

These are our thoughts.  Let us know if you agree or not.

REVIEW: Off The Cob – Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Off The Cob - Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips

Comments:

First of all, Off The Cob’s unique and colorful packaging is worth a good deal of recognition.  We are stumped as to whether the picture of the corn field with the bright red barn that graces the chip bag “cover”, is actually an enhanced photo, or a vibrant painting.  Either way it is refreshingly colorful and most definitely attention grabbing!

Off The Cob’s Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips have a sweet aura to them!  A rich, sweet corn essence!  The sweet corn flavor addition is easily identifiable, and certainly differentiates them from traditional corn tortilla chips.  Compared to the only other sweet corn tortilla chips that we have ever tasted, Off The Cob actually used real sweet corn to flavor and sweeten their chips, and in turn, they actually taste like it!  Also, it is probably worth noting that regardless of whether or not Off The Cob had decided not to use real sweet corn, they would still taste better than these unbearably, horrific sweet corn potato chips.

So, in one sense, Off The Cob’s Sweet Corn Tortilla Chips are executed perfectly.  They deliver on the premise they are built upon.  However, all that being said, how do the tortilla chips work overall when compared to all other tortilla chips?  The tortilla chips are lighter, crispy, with a softer crunch.  Their texture is fairly simple and smooth, not delivering very much complexity for our mouths to enjoy.  We would have appreciated a bit more salt to help counterbalance the chips’ natural sweetness.

All in all, the chips work, and are a notable addition to the tortilla chip game.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Michael Season’s – Natural Gourmet Lightly Salted & Unsalted Thin & Crispy Reduced Fat Traditional Style Potato Chips

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Comments:

Alright, let’s get two things out of the way, right from the get go.

First of all, we think there should be a limit to the number of descriptors a brand can include on the front of a single bag of chips.  We mean, come’on…..could the descriptions of these chips be any more long-winded….let’s leave something up to the imagination of the eater.  We want the mouthful to fill our stomachs….

And secondly, this is in fact the first time Chip Review has included two chips in one review….dare we say a tandem review, just for you?  We just feel that there is not enough criteria separating these chips to warrant two individual reviews, so the following review will be descriptive of both of these chips.

Michael Season’s Thin & Crispy Potato Chips can be described as a good version of Lay’s regular potato chips, and by this we mean less salty (which we admit, we slightly miss the salt), along with quite a bit less greasy (and we are thankful for that), and finally by the chips themselves, which are large, unbroken, crunchy and really taste like potato chips.

Sporting 30% less fat than the leading potato chip brand, you just wouldn’t know it by tasting them.  We definitely won’t be referring to these chips as “those” low fat chips any time soon.

Regarding the lack of salt on these chips….what can we say?  We like salt on our chips.  We love salt on our chips.  In fact, for the most part we enjoy seasoned chips more than regular salted potato chips.  So, we are having difficulty comparing these against any other chips…..and honestly, we’re pretty sure that Michael Season’s Unsalted potato chips are the very first ones we have ever given a shot, and you know what, they aren’t that bad.  For any of you out there who may have health issues with sodium, or just simply try to stick to a diet with lower sodium, these are the chips for you.  And you know what?  With, or without salt, these chips are better than Lay’s Regular Potato Chips in our opinion.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
