REVIEW: World Market Presents – Truffle Butter (a frighteningly delicious movie theater popcorn)

Rating: ©©© chips  (notable)

World Market - Truffle Butter PopcornWe have to hand it to World Market, they sure know how to market for the holidays, and with some pretty witty packaging!

Upon opening World Market’s clear bag of popcorn (yes clear, we said witty packaging, not quality), the truffle and butter aromas were terrifyingly upfront, and undeniable.  Even scarier (demonstrated by the Bride of Frankenstein’s face expression) was just how frighteningly fake both the butter and truffle flavors were!  Seriously!!  Almost sickeningly so…

And yet, the popcorn is very eatable, sort of addicting, and hard to stop munching on.  Weird, rich and sweet butter cream mingles with an earthy, and pungent aroma.  The popcorn is certainly not lacking in flavor like other truffle flavor snacks we have tried, but then again, it doesn’t taste as authentic as some either.

Also worth noting is the inclusion of MUSHROOM JUICE CONCENTRATE among the ingredients.  What else can we say?!?  We’ll just leave this review with that!

REVIEW: Alaska Chip Company – Theatre Style Buttered Popcorn

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

Alaska Chip Co - Buttered PopcornIsn’t it sort of funny when a company who describes itself as a quote ‘chip company’ decides to make something other than chips.  In this case we have Alaska Chip Company giving us their version of Theatre Style Buttered Popcorn.  That being said, when the popcorn is this delicious we don’t really care what the company calls itself!!

Some of us here at Chip Review went and saw ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ at the movie theater this weekend.  Pretty fun movie, we could recommend it.  Well, we of course love getting the biggest bucket of buttered popcorn when we are at the movies (air high-five if you are one of those people as well).  You know the size that the theater offers free refills of because they figure who the heck is going to eat all of that popcorn, and probably at the same time, who the heck spends that much money on popped corn with butter topping??  Well, we are those people, and we love to prove the theater wrong and ask for a refill just before we leave, so we can bring it home and enjoy it later that night.  You know there just has never really been anything out there on the store shelves that compares to the real thing…. UNTIL NOW!!

Alaska Chip Company’s Theatre Style Buttered Popcorn tastes just like the real thing!!  This is some fantastic popcorn!  Seriously, this stuff transported us right back to those giant red comfy lounger seats!  All we had to do was close our eyes and imagine that we were holding that big cardboard tub of finger licking, buttered popcorn!  Of course the popcorn wasn’t warm, and of course it didn’t get our fingers quite as greasy, but seriously, this is far and away the closest thing we have found to actual buttered movie theater popcorn.  There’s nothing more to say.  We rest our case!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

Chip Review of the day…..

Oogie’s Gourmet Popcorn – Movie Lovers Buttered Popcorn

Rating: ©©1/2 chips (tolerable)

Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn - Movie Theater Buttered Popcorn

Comments:

Did someone say date night?  Movie theater here we come.  But, why go to the Cineplex, and spend tons of dough, when you can enjoy all of the pleasures of digging into that same buttery tub of freshly popped popcorn from the comfort of your own living room?!?  Well, if that is what you are expecting, or hoping for, when you reached for your store bought, pre-packaged, Oogie’s Buttered Popcorn, then we are sorry, but you are definitely in for a letdown.

That is not to say that Oogie’s Movie Lovers Buttered Popcorn is bad necessarily, it’s just not really comparable to true movie theater popcorn.  We’re sorry to have to be the ones to tell you, but we have not tasted any powdered snack seasoning that really imitates real butter flavor, and it is not really practical to think that real melted butter can be used (sorry Angie).  What we would equate this popcorn to would be cooled down, butter flavored, microwave popcorn – that we did not have to microwave.  Anyone who has ever tasted a bag of butter flavored microwave popcorn knows what we are talking about.  That glowing yellow, extremely (lip stinging) salty, slightly butter flavor resembling, powdered seasoning, that coats each and every kernel, along with your fingers and sides of the bag.  The seasoning itself is actually rather tasty, especially when you do not expect it to deliver any real, rich, fatty, delicious, butter flavor.

Similar to Oogie’s other popcorns we’ve reviewed, these popcorn kernels were on the smaller side, and definitely had a bit of that chewy, toothsome, staleness going on to them.  So, if you are really in the mood for some real buttered movie theater popcorn, or looking for a really great pre-packaged version of buttered popcorn (like Ziggy’s), then we would tell you to skip Oogie’s Movie Lovers popcorn.  However, if you are just looking to get your fix of fake butter powdered popcorn, akin to microwave popcorn without the necessity of needing electricity or a microwave, then this popcorn could surely do the trick.

As always we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree. Let us know.

REVIEW: Angie’s – Buttery Movie Pop Popcorn

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

Angie's - Buttery Movie Pop

Comments:

Angie’s has been known to make some very tasty kettle corn, so when we saw this new small batch popcorn, proclaiming to be “Buttery Movie Pop” popcorn, we were very excited.  Unfortunately, our expectations, far exceeded Angie’s execution this time around.

Despite the ingredients’ list actually including real clarified butter (sounds good, and original), we did not get very much butter flavor from this popcorn, practically nothing.  We get it, obviously since real clarified butter is being used, if Angie decided to drench her popcorn with the melted butter, then there is no way she would be able to package her popcorn for retail sale, and she would be giving us soggy popcorn kernels, rather than fresh, unflavored kernels.

Sorry Angie, despite your Movie Pop popcorn being fresh and light, with a moderate crunch, we were expecting more for this popcorn.  More…how do we say it? Flavor!! Butter! Salt!  Maybe, Angie’s should stick to making tasty kettle corn!

As always we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree.  Let us know.
