BIJOU-REVIEW: Cadia – Cheddar Cheese Baked Corn Curls

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Cadia - Cheddar Cheese CurlsAnd yet another Cheetos substitute….

And by substitute, we of course mean wannabe.  In this case, a healthy wannabe, but still a wannabe that makes us yearn for the real thing!

Oh, don’t look at us like that, you know it’s true.  No matter how close those other brands come, they just can’t replace Chestah’s iconic Crunchy Cheetos!

Now don’t get us wrong, Cadia’s Cheddar Cheese Baked Corn Curls are still lip-smackingly impressive for what they are – a healthier substitute for Cheetos.

Is it wrong that we have mentioned Cheetos more times than Cadia in this review?

Anyways, Cadia’s curls are very well coated in a smooth and creamy cheddar cheese powder.

They could use a touch more salt, I.O.O.

The curls are certainly crunchy, and visually resemble Cheetos, but it is immediately apparent upon crunching on just a few curls that they are lacking the same fatty, mouth coating, appeal of Cheetos.  They are a touch more dry, and dusty.

The cheddar cheese seasoning really saved these curls, and we had no problem crunching on them for a while……but truth be told, we snuck a few Cheetos afterwards to really curb our craving!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Food Should Taste Good – Potato & Chive Tortilla Chips

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

Food Should Taste Good - Chive Pita PuffsFood, should taste good….don’t you think?

Just the other day we were asking ourselves, when do you think we will finally see some all natural chive flavored multigrain pita puffs?  Today, that question is answered.

These are a delight to crunch on.

The snack is certainly more about the pita puffs themselves than any chive seasoning.

Light and airy and crispy, with just a touch of sweetness recognizable on the tail end, from the inclusion of some honey.

F.S.T.G. keeps it really simple with the seasoning, which results in an extremely subtle chive flavor (again, letting the puffs be the stars of the show).  In fact, and we’re not joking around here, all there is to the seasoning is chive, and every chip’s BFF salt.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Cheetos – Just Salt (Japan)

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Cheetos - SaltThat’s right we’ve got more of Japan’s unique (aka weird) crunchy snacks!

Wow, these are fun! And these are tasty!!

Simply extruded corn, that’s crunchy, salty, delicious!!

Have you ever tasted plain-salted puffcorn (if not, you should give it a try)??

And, we know that you have tasted Fritos, right?

Well, these are sort of taste like a delicious hybrid between those two!  Loads of corn flavor, front and center, while also delivering the classic Cheetos’ light and crispy texture.

Pure, simple, crunchy, salty, deliciously tasty!

Well, there you have it.  Anyone else out there tried them yet?  Thoughts?  As always we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree.  Let us know.

REVIEW: Cheetos Crunchy – Wild Habanero

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Cheetos - Crunchy - Wild Habanero 2Cheetos Crunchy Wild Habanero are back again!  (original bag on the left, new bag on the right)

We can’t exactly remember when it was that these Cheetos appeared on, and vanished from, the scene – but it has to be 5+ years or so ago.

In the name of tasty science, we decided to eat these Wild Habanero along side with a bag of Cheetos Crunchy iconic Flamin’ Hots.  And, let’s just say, the Wild Habaneros do not come even remotely close to delivering the tangy, cheesy, spicy, deliciously perfect complexity that the Flamin’ Hots do!

That being said, these new(again) Cheetos are pretty tasty, and certainly draw similarities to the classic red finger stain-ers.  In fact, these could even be a case of the “if Flamin’ Hot Cheetos did not already exist, then we would most likely be praising the existence of them.”

The Wild Habanero Cheetos deliver a touch of cheese at the forefront, and then a splash of heat.  After a few more Cheetos, it becomes very apparent that these do in fact have habanero seasoning on them.  Not so much due to actually being able to taste any of the habanero chile pepper’s fruity notes, but more so that the heat level becomes pretty unbearable.  Yep, that’s right, the tops of our heads began to tingle, the little drops of sweat formed on our brows, and our tongues and backs of our throats burned for minutes on end.

If you are fans of Cheetos (and we’re guessing that you are – who isn’t?), and you like some heat, then we suggest you give these a try.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Go Lite! – Sweet Maui Onion Popped Chips

Rating: ©©©©-1/2 chips  (lip-smacking)

Go Lite! - Sweet Maui Onion Popped ChipsWe’re going to be honest here, these Go Lite! chips surprised the heck out of us!!  Seriously, we did not expect to like them, let alone, love them as much as we do.

First of all, “Lite!” is definitely “Right!”  These chips are light as air.  Crispy, and yet delivering that rich, melt-y, mouth texture we love from great cheese puffs.

Only 100 calories, wow! Cassava – we a-love-ya!!

The Sweet Maui Onion seasoning not only compliments the popped Cassava chips flawlessly, but it also tingles the taste buds with an intriguingly sweet, and salty, and sort of sour onion essence.  The flavor is simple, and rich, and surprisingly, DELICIOUSLY LITE!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Better Made – Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Puffs

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

Better Made Jalapeno Cheddar Cheese PuffsBetter Made’s cheese puffs must have been putting some major OT in at the crunchy snack weight room, because these puffs have some BODY to them!

These are some large and heavy puffs!!  With a really strong crunch.

A little more dense than normal.  Plus, they don’t exactly have the same melt-ability as most, or all, of the greatest cheese puffs out there do.

The extra orange, delightfully salty, cheddar cheese aspect is flavorful, but lacking that rich and tangy cheese essence.

The jalapeño chili heat and flavor is certainly there.  In fact, after a while you may just feel the spicy pain.

So, if you are looking for some spicy cheese puffs, you could certainly do far worse than Better Made’s version, but you could also do better.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
