BIJOU-REVIEW: Trader Joe’s – Mango Coconut Caramel Corn

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Trader Joe's - Mango Coconut Caramel CornMango Coconut Caramel Corn?!?

Does that sound appealing to you?  If the answer to that question is yes, then you are most definitely going to enjoy these.  If the answer to that question is no, then you will most likely be extremely surprised by how tasty this caramel corn truly is!

Initial scents triggered thoughts of tropical far away lands.  Strong notes of coconut, combined with sweet, sticky caramel, and rich butter.

Initial tastes reconfirmed initial thoughts of tropical far away lands!  Delicious far away lands filled with the flavors of sweet caramel and coconut, mingling with fruity mango and rich, smooth butter.

This is some seriously heavily coated popcorn kernels, they have some weight to them.

Large, full, round, popcorn kernels.

Surprising, impressively surprising.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: The Little Kernel – Truffle Sea Salt Mini Popcorn

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

The Little Kernel - Truffle Sea Salt Mini PopcornWhat a cute little captain kernel, sailing his sorta sapphire sea salt sail boat with his sidekick….suidae?  Huh?!  Oh, now we get it….with his little blue, truffle hunting piggy.

The Little Kernel’s mini popcorn itself is actually cute, and is certainly on the smaller kernel end of the popcorn spectrum (probably half the size of a typical kernel).

Unlike the Himalayan Sea Salt flavor we tried from The Little Kernel just the other day, this stuff is impressively flavored.

Additionally, unlike many other truffle flavored chips or popcorn that we have tried, this popcorn impressively provides a lot of true truffle flavor!

We could have used a touch more salt.

If you like popcorn, and you like truffle, this stuff will certainly do the trick.

BIJOU-REVIEW: Cheetos – Just Salt (Japan)

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Cheetos - SaltThat’s right we’ve got more of Japan’s unique (aka weird) crunchy snacks!

Wow, these are fun! And these are tasty!!

Simply extruded corn, that’s crunchy, salty, delicious!!

Have you ever tasted plain-salted puffcorn (if not, you should give it a try)??

And, we know that you have tasted Fritos, right?

Well, these are sort of taste like a delicious hybrid between those two!  Loads of corn flavor, front and center, while also delivering the classic Cheetos’ light and crispy texture.

Pure, simple, crunchy, salty, deliciously tasty!

Well, there you have it.  Anyone else out there tried them yet?  Thoughts?  As always we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree.  Let us know.

BIJOU-REVIEW: PopCrinkles – Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt Popped Potato Crinkles

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

PopCrinkles - Roast GarlicWe have been striking it pungently rich this year with cloves of delicious garlic snacks!

And we are happy to report that these New PopCrinkles can be easily added to that list!

We had a sneaking feeling PopCrinkles logo looked very familiar, and as it turns out, PopCrinkles are the new “popped potato crinkles”, aka potato crisps, from the creators of “the new shape of popcorn”, aka popcorn chips – PopCorners.

In other words, PopCrinkles has hopped right onto the popular popped potato bus, and hopes to ride it all the way to popular popped potato palace.

If these first crinkles are any indication of the entire flavor line-up than PopCrinkles is definitely headed in the right direction.

The popped potato crinkles are thicker than regular potato chips, and deliver a significantly solid crunch.  And yet at the same time are light and crispy enough that you can eat an entire bag and not really feel a dent in the old chip collector.

The crinkles deliver enough “real” potato flake flavor to evoke thoughts of eating delicious fried potato slices.

The Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt flavor delivers a deliciously well balanced seasoning blend.  Certainly not as powerfully garlic flavored as other garlic chips on the market.

We also wouldn’t go so far as to call it the most authentic representation of roasted garlic flavor, with the inclusion of ingredients such as: sour cream, brown sugar, cheddar cheese, butter powder, whey, and yeast extract…

All in all we are very pleased with PopCorners new PopCrinkles, and hope to see PopPuffs and PopPretzels soon!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Ikea – Potatischips Satade (Salted Potato Chips)

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Ikea - Potato ChipsWe are 99.999% sure that we tried these many – many years ago (and of course by many – many we mean about 15 years or so).

We’re talking about a time when Ikea first appeared on the North American scene.  Yeah, we’re sure some of you probably can’t remember, or even believe, that there was actually a day when the blue and yellow behemoth wasn’t invading your lives with its absurdly cute, and insanely cheap, home goods.  But, we are here to tell you that that day did once exist….

Any who, we recently made a weekend voyage out to the burbs (is every Ikea everywhere located in the burbs?  Sure seems like it), to peruse the land of perfect rooms, and we stumbled upon Ikea’s delicious salted potato chips.

Ikea’s Potatischips Satades are rustic, skin on, thick cut, a touch oily (in a good way), crunchy and toothsome, and certainly salty!  We’re not sure who makes these chips for, or on behalf of, Ikea, but they do a great job!

At the end of our journey through Ikea’s winding wonderland path we used to always grab an ice cream cone to reward ourselves for having not spent every single one of our hard earned dollars, but we may just have to include a bag of these potato chips as well!

BIJOU-REVIEW: The Little Kernel – Pink Himalayan Salt Mini Popcorn

Rating: ©©© chips  (tolerable)

The Little Kernel - Pink Himalayan Salt Mini PopcornWhat a cute little colonel kernel.  Waiving his cute little flavor flag, on his cute pink bag.

And you know what?  The popcorn itself is actually cute and little.  The bright white miniature kernels are probably one half the size of a traditional popcorn kernel.

But, really we don’t get it.  Or, let’s just say we aren’t falling for the kernel’s cute little smile, and cute little kernels.

The mini popcorn just seems like one more gimmick to trick us into buying another new product on the market.

The popcorn itself is alright, but nothing special. Light and crispy kernels, with a hint of olive oil flavor, but definitely lacking in salt content.  We would have really liked more seasoning.

Getting back to that “we don’t get it” mentioned above.  Popcorn is already a snack where a handful of it can be picked up and tossed into your chomper.  So, why would it be necessary, or for any reason practical, to make it any smaller?  It is not as if you are taking kettle cooked potato chips, and making them miniature so we can cram an entire handful into our chip eaters, rather than grabbing one or a couple of chips and crunching them.  In other words – we just don’t get it.
