Keogh’s – Shamrock and Sour Cream Potato Crisps

Keogh's - Shamrock and Sour Cream

Original Review Here

If we had to choose a surprise sleeper chip of the year, Keogh’s Shamrock and Sour Cream would take the prize hands down!  First of all, when we snagged this bag from World Market’s chip aisle we had never heard of Keogh’s brand of chips (later to learn that they are a family owned and ran potato farm in Ireland that also creates some amazingly delicious crisps – chips).  Secondly, we had also never, ever heard of ‘shamrock’ being included in the ingredients of potato chips (although we are still not quite convinced that we can actually taste any….).  Lastly, the “…and Sour Cream” flavor description does not do these crisps any justice!!    To better understand what we are saying, either click on the link above and read our review, or go find yourself one of these delicious bags of potato crisps!!!

Keogh's - Shamrock and Sour CreamCan we take a moment, and just start off this review by sending World Market stores everywhere a great big thank you, and hug!  Seriously, for us to try and figure out all of the different amazing chips we have discovered at World Market over the years would take forever.  Chips that we would have very likely never ever crossed paths, or lips with if it weren’t for the World Market!  Can you imagine if we never had reviewed the uniquely fruity and seriously spicy Hawaiian’s Mango Habanero Kettle Style Potato Chips?  Or, indulged in the delicious melange of flavors from Burt’s British Potato Chips Bursting With Spicy Chorizo?  How could we call ourselves Chip Review if we hadn’t reviewed Covered Bridge’s Montreal Steak Spice Seasoning Old Fashioned Kettle Cooked Potato Chips?!  And, let’s not forget our most recent delectable discovery Cobs Cheddar Cheese Popcorn!

Well, we think that it is pretty safe to say that we can now add Keogh’s Shamrock and Sour Cream Potato Crisps to this fantastic list!  According to local Irish legend:

Keogh’s Farm is a family owned and run potato growing and crisping business based in North County Dublin, an area famous for producing Ireland’s finest potatoes.  Keogh’s has been farming the rich fertile lands in this area for over 200 years and have recently set up a “crisping house” on the farm…now producing Ireland’s only “hand cooked on the farm” artisan potato crisps.

Launched in 2012 to celebrate St Patricks Day, Keogh’s Shamrock and Sour Cream potato crisps combine the delicious tangy taste of Sour Cream with the freshness of traditional Irish Shamrock. Our Shamrock is grown in Ballinskelligs Co. Kerry by Livingshamrock. This area also produces the fresh Irish Shamrock which is presented to the American president on St Patrick’s Day! www.keoghs.ie

Shamrock?!?  What the heck is shamrock….?  We mean, we know what a shamrock is in the sense of Lucky Charms…it is like a four leaf clover, right? Honestly, when we first dug into these fine potato crisps we figured that they were just going to be some variation of the classic sour cream and onion flavor combination.  But to our delight these crisps encompassed so much more.  A uniquely tangy combination of sour cream, onion, garlic, cheddar cheese and shamrock!?! In other words, tasty and amazing!  The sour cream aspect is up front, powerful and spot on.  A rich, tangy, and creamy flavor, complimented by the fragrant notes of garlic and onion, and rounded out with an underlying sweetness, and a dash of some salty cheese powder.  We’re not exactly sure if we actually could detect the addition of shamrock, but the crisps did finish with a slightly bitter, and savory tone that we really appreciated.

Keogh’s potato crisps are nothing short of great themselves!  Varying sizes of rustic, skin on, bright yellow hued fried potato slices!  Medium thick, with good potato flavor, and a crispy kettle cooked consistency!  Maybe a little greasy, but nothing that hinders their clean and neutral flavor!  We would welcome these fantastic Irish crisps anytime stateside!!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think. Agree or disagree, let us know.
