REVIEW: Simply 7 – Cheddar Quinoa Chips

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Simply 7 - Cheddar Quinoa ChipsSimply 7 “simply” will not be satisfied until they have determined how to make chips out of everything that is good for us.  It won’t be long before we are enjoying Brussels sprout chips, or Omega-3 loaded salmon chips, or maybe even chips made with water….(ice chips?!?).

Until that day comes, we will simply have to enjoy Simply 7’s Lentil Chips, Hummus Chips, Pomegranate Chips, and now Quinoa Chips!  Each of Simply 7′s different types of chips have their own distinct and unusual texture.  Whereas both the pomegranate and hummus chips have tiny ripples, and rough surfaces, the lentil chips are much more suave and silky to our tongue’s delight.  With the quinoa chips, Simply 7 has given us a little bit larger chip, with a slightly, airier, multi-grainy texture, kind of reminiscent of Sun Chips.  The chips are so light, that finishing an entire bag in one sitting (although, not recommended), is not very difficult!

Where these Cheddar Quinoa Chips really shine is with their delicious flavoring.  A rich and savory combination of garlic and cheddar cheese, really enhance the light and crispy quinoa chips.  The seasoning is not over the top, and in your face, rather it simply delivers on a real aged cheddar cheese essence!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

Simply 7 – Jalapeno Lentil Chips

Simply 7 - Jalapeno Lentil Chips

Original Review Here

Honestly, we can admit it, on the surface these chips do not sound extremely intriguing or appetizing.  However, as the very last flavor we tasted from Simply 7, it was apparent from the get go that these were easily THE BEST!  The complex jalapeno seasoning blend, combined with Simply 7’s uniquely simple lentil chip texture, created something far above all of their other Lentil Chips, Hummus Chips, and Pomegranate Chips that we reviewed this year!

Simply 7 - Jalapeno Lentil Chips

Comments:

Well, that’s it, we found them.  Game over.  Shut the door.  So long, and good night!

As if we didn’t already believe that Simply 7 made some very tasty and unique chips, along comes their Jalapeno Lentil Chips and flips the game on us.  Simply 7 is no longer playing with the little chip boys, with this latest flavor, they’ve made it to the big leagues!!

The lentil chip texture and mouth feel is “simply” the smoothest among Simply 7′s three wonderful different chips – Lentil Chips (present), Hummus Chips, and Pomegranate Chips.  Each of Simply 7′s three types of chips have their own distinct and unusual texture (and of course flavor, but we’ll get to that in a little bit).  Whereas both the pomegranate and hummus chips have tiny ripples, and rough surfaces, the lentil chips are much more suave and silky to our tongue’s delight.  They sort of look like deflated pork rind squares.  One of our favorite attributes of the Lentil Chips is their sweet fried scent.  There just seems to be something about the combination of lentil flour, and oil, that triggers rich, sweet, flavorful thoughts racing through our minds.

Simply 7’s Jalapeno seasoning is a wonderful melange of flavors!  Tiny scattered specs of orange and green dots amply coat the lentil chips.  The chips encompass a ton of flavor, there’s a hint of sweetness, a pungent garlic and onion zip, and there’s an undeniable jalapeno chile presence that really delivers quite a bit of heat, that builds and builds.  The lentil chips really absorb and compliment the seasoning blend perfectly!  Which is probably why we couldn’t find any of the typical seasoning sitting at the bottom of the bag once we reached it…and lets just say we certainly reached their bottom very quickly!

Simply 7’s Jalapeno Lentil Chips are definitely some of the best jalapeno chips that we’ve tasted in a while.  In fact, they are very close to making Chip Review’s Top 5 Jalapeno Chips! Maybe with a few more bags, and a little time, they may just find themselves there in the near future!!

RATING: Simply 7 – Bruschetta Lentil Chips

Rating: ©©-3/4 chips  (tolerable)

Simply 7 - Bruschetta Lentil Chips

Comments:

Up until now, right now, we had really believed that Simply 7 could do no chip wrong.  We had at least really liked, even loved, practically all of their chips that we tasted; especially their lentil chips……..however, that is, until these bruschetta flavor.  The Bruschetta flavor just does not mesh well with the lentil chips flavor and texture, not to mention that the bruschetta seasoning combination fell flat.

The lentil chip texture and mouth feel is “simply” the smoothest among Simply 7’s three wonderful different chips – Lentil Chips (present), Hummus Chips, and Pomegranate Chips.  Of course, they are all unique, and actually fantastic in their own right, and luckily for us, we still have even more to review!.  However, whereas both the pomegranate and hummus chips have tiny ripples, and rough surfaces, these lentil chips are much more suave and silky to our tongue’s delight.  They actually sort of look like deflated pork rind squares.  Their crunch is very crispy, yet their texture is still soft, and sort of melts in the mouth like cheese puffs do.

However, despite their wonderful chip texture, the bruschetta flavor was not very fresh at all.  We were really missing the fresh herbal punch of basil that we normally love in good bruschetta.  The seasoning tasted like a combination of sour acidic tomato, with a kick of black pepper and garlic….in other words, it didn’t remind us of any bruschetta that we had ever tasted.

Despite their their slightly off-putting, and definitely underwhelming flavor, the lentil chips are still easy to eat.  They’re light and crispy enough that before you know it, you’ve thrown back one, two or probably ten more handfuls than you actually planned to eat.

RATING: Simply 7 – Sea Salt Lentil Chips

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Simply 7 - Sea Salt Lentil Chips

Comments:

Oh Simply 7 how you continue to wow and confuse us it beyond words (but we must try).  Simply 7 produces three types of wonderfully different chips – Lentil Chips (present), Hummus Chips, and Pomegranate Chips.  They are all unique, and actually fantastic in their own right, and luckily we still have more to review!

Each of Simply 7’s three types of chips has their own distinct and unusual texture (and of course flavor, but we’ll get to that in a little bit).  After having now tried the “plain”, sea salted version (in addition to the wonderful Creamy Dill flavor) of the lentil chips, we have concluded, without a doubt, that they are our favorite type among the three varietals.  Their chip texture and mouth feel is simply the smoothest among the types.  Whereas both the pomegranate and hummus chips have tiny ripples, and rough surfaces, the lentil chips are much more suave and silky to our tongue’s delight.  They sort of look like deflated pork rind squares.  Their crunch is very crispy, yet their texture is still soft, and sort of melts in the mouth like cheese puffs do.

Similar to the Creamy Dill flavored lentil chips, the scent that came from the chip bag upon opening them was akin to sweet, fried goodies.  There just seems to be something about the combination of lentil flour, and oil, that triggers rich and flavorful thoughts racing through our minds.  However, unlike with the Creamy Dill flavored chips, this time the chip’s flavor came shining through.  And, how can we exactly describe this flavor to you??  Imagine eating, if you will, crunchy, earthy, oily, salt.  Their flavor is clean and simple.  It is not exactly reminiscent of anything in particular, but some tasters did make comparisons to Bugles (which was more likely due to their texture, than actual flavor).  So, in the end, we are simply going to go with – you need to taste them, to understand them.  Some tasters definitely felt like the lentil chips make better flavor vehicles than they do being “plain”.
