REVIEW: Pringles – Cinnamon & Sugar

Rating: ©©©-1/2 chips  (notable)

Comments:

Pringles pandemonium seems to have hit its Holiday Season peak!!!  We already reviewed Pumpkin Pie Spice here.  Overall opinions at Chip Review were mixed.  We have not yet obtained a can of the White Chocolate Peppermint ones.  We sure hope we do before they disappear into the lost chip abyss forever.

It seems like just about everyone has chimed in with their opinions on Pringles unique sweet trifecta!  As far as the Cinnamon & Sugar ones, we’ve spotted reviews from Junk Food Guy, Fat Guy Food Blog, and countless numbers of youtube reviews – here and here and here.

Overall opinions seemed to be met with mixed reactions, and once again it is no different here at Chip Review.  Some of us loved the sweet and salty combo, mixed with just the right amount of cinnamon to puzzle our taste buds, but yet still let us know we’re eating potato crisps.  While others of us were disappointed with the lack of cinnamon and sugar presence, longing for more, and found the holiday flavors clashing with the potato crisp’s “natural” flavor.

What we all could agree on at Chip Review was that we were thankful to Pringles for making the decision to push the boundaries and dabble in flavors that most other chip companies wouldn’t ever think of trying!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know make sure to let us know.

REVIEW: Salveo – Cinnamon & Sugar Sweet Potato Tater Pops

Rating: ©©©-3/4 chips  (notable)

Comments:

Salveo – Latin for “In Good Health”, the name says it all.  These chips are yet another addition to the world of healthier popped chips.  To be completely honest with you, we were expecting to dislike these chips based on our history with popped chips, especially sweet potato ones, but to our surprise we were happily mistaken.

Salveo’s Popped Tater Chips are thinner and crispier than the majority of other popped chips we’ve tried.  And they seem to have found a flavor combination that actually compliments the sweet potato taters, as opposed to overwhelming us with sugar.

The smell of these chips instantly reminded us of carrot and apple cakes.  Those sweet aromatic notes of nutmeg (in this case annatto), and cinnamon always trigger thoughts of delicious home baked cakes in our minds.  The seasoning combination on these taters works really well too, despite the combination causing us to stop for a second and ponder upon whether or not we are eating dessert….  But the small addition of salt onto these sweet potato crisps rounds everything out.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Smartfood – Cinnamon Brown Sugar Popcorn

Rating: ©©©©-1/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Comments:

Smart-Food is right!  The popcorn brand previously best know for their black bags with giant kernels of white cheddar popcorn on the front, has now given us another new flavor of popcorn.  Mingling excellent all natural ingredients together to create a very sweet combo that works really well with Smartfood’s light fluffly kernels – this truly is some “smartfood”.

With this flavor, Smartfood, much like recently reviewed Pretzel Crisps – Cinnamon Toast, has tried to evoke our inner most childhood memories with the classic cinnamon and sugar combo.  Although Smartfood’s attempt may not work quite as remarkably as Pretzel Crisp’s, it is still pretty darn tasty nonetheless.  Each kernel is completely coated with a heavy layer of cinnamon, brown sugar and, is that butter we taste?  After a quick peak at the ingredients list we realized, “yep, there’s buttermilk amongst these ingredients, and it tastes oddly good”.  Luckily the buttermilk is just subtle enough to blend nicely with the sweetness.  If we had only one complaint regarding this tasty new product, it would be the lack of salt to balance everything out.

REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps – Cinnamon Toast

Rating: ©©©©-3/4 chips  (lip-smacking)

Comments:

Pretzel Crisps, oh how you continue to wow and amaze us.  This time, you have evoked our inner most childhood memories, sprinkled them all over your tasty pretzel crisps and dared us not to love them….Well, we accept your dare, and we do love them.  If you, like we at Chip Review, grew up eating Cinnamon Sugar Toast (and loved it!) then you should not miss these.

We admit that we had our doubts at first, presuming that Pretzel Crisps may just forgo the usual salt aspect of the pretzel and keep these crisps solely on the sweet side, but boy were we ever happily mistaken.  Not only were the traditional, large crystals of salt covering each pretzel, but salt was also included in the finely ground seasoning sprinkled wonderfully on each crisp.  The remainder of the seasoning was a combination of sugar and cinnamon.  The near perfect harmony of the sweet, salty and earthy aromatic together had our mouths screaming for more (just like we used to do as kids after our first two slices…).
