Pringles Limited Time Only - Sea Salt & Pepper

Comments:

These ‘Limited Time Only’ Pringles made their debut along side their alter ego Lime & Black Pepper flavor (the combo just didn’t really work for us), which, to be honest, we weren’t the biggest fans.

As for the Sea Salt & Pepper crisps, they’re alright.  Definitely not the best S&P chips we’ve tasted, but at the same time not the worst.  In fact, as we worked our way down the canister, we came to the conclusion that the S&P seasoning was a pretty decent recipe, but it just didn’t jive well with Pringles potato crisps.

The seasoning consisted of loads of salt, and a modestly up front pepper flavor.  While we appreciated how the pepper had been pulverized into a dust, or fine powder per se, we wished that it had exhibited a bit more conviction.  Perhaps more akin to many of the S&P chips on the market, and definitely something that contrasted the considerable amount of salt a bit better.

For another (maybe more positive) take on these, along with our recently reviewed Lime & Black Pepper Pringles, check out Junk Food Guy.

As always, these are our thoughts.  Agree or disagree, make sure to let us know.

REVIEW: Pringles – Limited Time Only Lime & Black Pepper

Rating: ©©-1/2 chips  (tolerable)

Pringles Limited Time Only - Lime & Black Pepper

Comments:

Not one of our favorite Pringles by any means, but not for lack of flavor execution.

The chips exhibited that fake, acidic, lime sour that when overdone (as in this case) we just hate.  The lime seasoning on these Pringles reminded us of the recently reviewed Lay’s Que Rico Limon Crisps, which we described as “… a joke how unnaturally sour they are.  Everyone who tried one of these chips at Chip Review puckered their lips, and called them absurdly sour.  But, limes are sour you say….?  Yes, we understand that, but the acidic sour zing that these crisps possessed did not taste so much like fresh, citrus-y limes,  so much as they tasted like tongue-tingling, sweet and sour candy…..simply unnatural, and un-tasty.”  This type of lime seasoning makes us appreciate chip companies like Laurel Hill and Food Should Taste Good’s decisions to use natural lime juice or flavor, even though it may be a bit too subtle for our taste buds at times.

The saving grace with these chips may be the addition of black pepper.  A simple, and light, dusting of pepper powder sprinkled on each crisp helped just a tiny bit to distract us from the acidic barrage that Pringles exposed us to.  Still, that being said, we don’t even necessarily love the combination of lime and black pepper, and especially not on potato crisps (better suited for corn tortilla chips).

But, like we’ve said so many times before, regardless of our opinion, props must be given to Pringles for continually putting out more new flavors than any other chips on the market, and keeping our mouths busy!!

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.

REVIEW: Pringles – Limited Time Only! White Chocolate Peppermint

Pringles - White Chocolate Peppermint

Comments:

For this “special” review, our last of the 2012 season, we have decided that since everyone, and their mothers, have already reviewed Pringles flavor-genre breaking holiday potato crisps, we are going to craft our thoughts, and our review, utilizing the words of a handful of our fellow snack evaluators.  Due to our decision to plagiarize our friends you may notice that our review has been fashioned in the first person perspective, because, well, that is how they write….we hope you enjoy!

This was my White Whale…I went to two different Walmarts and two different Targets just to find these…things. Like I didn’t hate the idea of eating them already, they made me go to two Walmarts (Junk Food Betty).  Ok….ok.   So….hmmm.  Wow.  Wait, what?  …let me gather myself, and try to describe these Limited Edition White Chocolate Peppermint Pringles (Junk Food Guy).

When I first bit into a chip, the peppermint was cool on my tongue, which I thought was interesting (Grub Grade).  As I…closed my chompers, the air around the chip began to taste of chocolate mint (Junk Food Guy). The addition of a little peppermint oil, which is what I have to assume is one of the natural flavors listed in the ingredients, and you’ve got a noticeably oily snack (Kotaku).  Then, as I chewed, the decently strong flavor of a rich cocoa and icy feel of mint emerged…only then to be blended with the predictable taste of a salty Pringles potato crisp.  It was the most peculiar thing I’d eaten of late.  So bizarre (Junk Food Guy).

The taste is akin to having an out of body experience. If you lick the chip – excuse me, crisp – you definitely pick up flavors of peppermint and white chocolate. It’s short lived though, like a stick of gum… (The Impulsive Buy).  These Pringles tasted exactly like how they’re supposed to, and my taste buds wanted to go to their special place and pretend this wasn’t happening (Junk Food Betty).  The flavor is actually…good, but it’s completely disjointed from the characteristic Pringles’ finish, which for lack of a better word is best described as slightly, possibly, sorta potato-ey (The Impulsive Buy).

These are great to experience, but not for extended snacking (Fat Guy Food Blog).  Would I eat these again? I really don’t think so. But these are bizarre enough that if you bring these to your holiday party, it WILL BE what EVERYONE is talking about by party’s end, WITHOUT A DOUBT (Junk Food Guy)!!!

As always, these are our thoughts (told through the words of others), we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
