Hear Ye – Hear Ye – Doritos has a new logo!! For a second we thought that Doritos had simply changed the design for their JACKED line of chips, but after a little deeper investigation, we noticed that the Spicier Nacho and Spicy Sweet Chili bags on the shelf at our local grocery store were also sporting the new bag design. So, what do you think? Do you like it? Do we like it?
Compared to Doritos last design (which seems to have had quite a shelf life), we do like this new incarnation much better. The bags feel fresh, with a retro-modern font (yeah, we know, oxymoron, but the design somehow achieves both), bright and bold color contrast. And of course the standard orange Doritos triangle (tortilla chip) makes its appearance. This time the triangle is a bit more obvious than the old squiggled triangle sound waves from the last design.
We here at Chip Review are still not the hugest fans of the JACKED line from Doritos. They are definitely – BIGGER – BOLDER & THICKER, but we just don’t enjoy the bigger and thicker aspects (bolder = more flavor, and we’re just fine with that!). The tortilla chips seem too big, and their texture is so thick that they feel a little dense, and lose that perfect Doritos light, crispiness.
As far as these JACKED Doritos go so far, we think we like the Enchilada Supreme flavor the best, and then probably these new Ranch Dipped Hot Wings, and lastly the Smoky Chipotle BBQ ones, which didn’t really do much for us.
Before we get started on why Doritos would create yet another version of Buffalo / Hot Wing flavored chips, let us try our hand at describing this newest version, which is pretty tasty. These chips are most definitely bolder than the traditional line of Doritos. Each tortilla chip is extremely-heavily coated with bright red seasoning. First off, there is an ample amount of nice and spicy cayenne chili seasoning. Heat seekers will not be disappointed with these chips. Next up, the nasal zing from the vinegar hits your airways and taste buds. The ranch seasoning is noticeable and soothes, or tames, some the spicy hot wing flavor. Lastly, regarding the wing aspect of the flavor, for those of you who like chicken flavored chips, you’re in luck. In fact, Lay’s could have taken a lesson, or two, from these chips about executing chicken flavor for their recent Do Us a Flavor Finalist – Chicken & Waffle Potato Chips. It appears that the chicken achieving secret includes a trio of chicken fat, broth, and powder to create the poultry flavor on these chips.
Before we go, we’d just like to pose the question: why has Doritos felt the urge to create yet another version of Buffalo / Hot Wing flavored chips; especially one that is nearly exact to one they currently have on store shelves today?
If our tally is correct, this makes their fifth incarnation of the Buffalo / Hot Wing flavor genre.

- Tangy Buffalo Wing
- 2nd Degree Burn Fiery Buffalo
- Blazin’ Buffalo & Ranch
- JACKED Ranch Dipped Hot Wings
- Collisions Hot Wings Blue Cheese
