Call us conservative…

Call us old school….

You can even call us purists….

The fact is, we love the simplicity of Fritos Original Corn Chips so much so that we have a difficult time embracing any of the flavored Fritos that are released.  Why mess with such a tasty, harmonious combination of three minimal ingredients – corn, salt & oil.

Apparently, these Fritos Limited Edition Wild ‘n Mild Corn Chips are a throwback-Limited-Edition Fritos flavor.  We say apparently because we had never heard of them prior to this limited edition release, but thanks to some great investigative work (along with a spot on review) by Junk Food Guy, we see now that these Fritos not only did exist, but they had many admirers!

In our opinion, these Fritos taste very similar to Doritos Cooler Ranch, but with a lot less of the seasoning covering each of the chips.  The flavor also seemed to be missing a bit of the sour creaminess that we love about ranch.  Also, the thickness of the Fritos corn chips have a much stronger corn flavor, that over-shadows the flavoring a bit too much.  Part of what makes Cooler Ranch Doritos work so well, is that the tortilla chips are so light and crispy, and allow for the generous dusting of seasoning to shine.

All that being said, we still thought these Wild ‘n Mild Ranch Fritos were fairly tasty.  In fact, these are probably the best flavored Fritos we have ever tasted, and they are DEFINITELY better than any of the salty, awkward, flavor bombs called Fritos Flavor Twists.  Still, if we ever have a choice, we will always be choosing the originals.

As always, these are our thoughts, we would love to hear what you think.  Agree or disagree, let us know.
