Comments:

Jalapeno Jack is the third flavor from the quartet of Limited Batch classic flavors that Kettle Brand decided to re-release for their 30 Year Anniversary (and our pleasure).  First, Chip Review reviewed the super unique and tasty  Cheddar Beer flavored potato chips.  Next, we decided to try the fantastic Salsa with Mesquite flavored potato chips, and we most certainly were not disappointed.  Kettle Brand has another great flavor with their Jalapeno Jack.  While we may not love it quite as much as the first two flavors we tasted, these are still some delicious chips.

What we noticed first upon opening this bag of chips was the colorful, confetti of red and green seasoning dusting each potato chip.  The chips didn’t only look like pepper jack cheese (coincidence, we don’t think so), but tasted quite a bit like it as well.  The seasoning evoked that rich, tart, creamy, white cheese flavor.  There was also a commanding fresh pepper flavor from the green and red bell, and jalapeno mix, that created just a little bit of heat after a few seconds.  This flavor combination was a nice rendition of the traditional jalapeno and cheddar cheese flavored chips, and as always Kettle Brand’s potato chips are definitely the best kettle cooked potato chips on the market.

Can we just point out how awesome the above bag looks?  As far as we’re concerned, these Limited Batch chips will definitely be walking away with this year’s award for best designed bags.  However, it is also worth mentioning that Kettle Brand’s bags are not only visually appealing but the feel of them is unlike any other bags that we know of on the market today.  Whatever material these bags are constructed from seems of a much higher quality than the rest of the industry.  We’re not sure if their design is for aesthetic reasons, or serves a more rational (fresh chips, or recycled materials…) purpose, but either way, we are huge fans!!

Stay tuned as we still have one flavor left to try from the ’30 Year Limited Batch’ quartet, and hopefully we’ve saved the best for last!!

As always we would love to hear what you think.  Let us know.

REVIEW: Pretzel Crisps – Jalapeno Jack Deli Style

Rating: ©©©© chips  (lip-smacking)

Comments:

If you haven’t acquainted yourself with any of the Pretzel Crisps yet, Chip Review can’t urge you enough to go out and try these special pretzel-chip hybrids.  Picture great pretzel flavor, but with a light, crisp-y chip.  We have yet to taste a single one that we didn’t enjoy.

Although, we may feel this Jalapeno Jack flavor doesn’t jive quite as well with the pretzel base as the other flavors we’ve tried, these are still perfectly eatable.  A bit of chili heat comes through with the jalapeno seasoning, but mostly we are hit with a grassy, vegetal, pepper flavor, combined with a bit too salty, buttermilk combo.  And, we don’t taste too much jack cheese flavoring.  It is far more apparent in the scent of these crisps than on the tongue.  Overall, we found this flavor a little one note – without the depth we’ve encountered in other Pretzel Crisp flavors – but luckily the Pretzel Crisps themselves can hold their own…

So, for any of you looking for a healthier snack option without the extra calories that come from deep fried potato slices or ground corn, these are a great option for you.  Pretzel Crisps also work great as vehicles for dips or cheese slices, but if you want our honest opinion, these crisps are best consumed as is.

As always we would love to hear what you think.  Let us know.
