REVIEW: North Fork of Long Island – Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chips

North Fork of Long Island - Sour Cream & OnionWe have come to two conclusions regarding North Fork of Long Island’s potato chips so far.  The first being that the potato chips themselves are packed with loads of delicious potato flavor.  The second is that although North Fork’s flavors may consist of a fairly traditional line-up, each of those flavors seem to encompass a slightly enjoyable twist to them!

As we have told you in reviews past, North Fork’s kettle cooked potato chips are not the thick, hearty ones that most of us are used to.  The chips are very thinly cut, but you can certainly tell that they still have a great, extra crispy, kettle cook to them.  The chips are on the smaller side, curved and crinkled in every way and shape, with plenty of rustic “real” potato skin edges and flavor.

North Fork’s sour cream and onion recipe is appears to be heavy on the sour, while very light on the cream, and onion is just along for the ride.  Immediately, the tongue tingling sour is was apparent as it made contact with our taste buds, and once it had subdued a little bit, we noticed an ample shot of pungent onion flavor.  As we finished the bite, we began to wonder where the typical smoothy cream aspect was?  A few more handfuls revealed that there simply was not very much cream to be had.  Was the result necessarily bad?  No, just different.

So, while North Fork’s sour cream and onion flavor was not very traditional, or really very accurate either (sour onion?), we appreciate the variation and the flavor combo; especially when paired with their thin kettle cooked potato chips.  If you seek something a little different, and a lot sour, then these maybe just for you!
