Gardy’s Signature Flavors? Who is Gardy you ask? Well, Ron Gardenhire is the Manager for the greatest team in the history of Major League Baseball – the Minnesota Twins (sorry Chicago, our roots run deep). But, what is Ron Gardenhire doing creating ‘Signature Flavors’ for Barrel O’ Fun (B.O.F.) potato chips??? Well, B.O.F. just happens to be the official potato chips of the Minnesota Twin, and what’s more official than letting the F.M. sign-off on some new flavors? Enough said.
We’re not sure about any other flavors that Gardy has signed off on, but if these Cheddar & Horseradish are any indication as to the quality and accuracy he believes in, you can sign us up as well!! These are some great tasting chips. First, the short-lived, but potent horseradish punch exploded onto our tongues and burnt our nasal passages for that split second before the smooth, and mild cheddar did its job and subdued the wild root. The cheddar cheese powder added just the right amount of creamy counterbalance to offset the “spicy” horseradish.
The potato chips themselves are also pretty great. They are thinner, medium sized, with loads of potato flavor. It’s really amazing how the potato isn’t completely covered up by the horseradish seasoning, but it simply isn’t. The bag was filled with tons of whole unbroken chips, which is always a bonus (considering these traveled all the way too us from the ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes). We always appreciate when some of the potato peel is left on the edge of the chip. It just makes the chips feel more real, and rustic. Which basically sums up everything these chips are all about – you can’t get much more rustic than some potato chips made in northern Minnesota….that is, unless you got Gardy to sign off on them!!!
